For anyone following the saga of Sir Catrick Swayze...... we're growing on him......

Last year, around this time, we saw a feral kitty limping and scouring for scraps. We put out traps. For MONTHS. It took us until December to actually trap this boy. Which, from the shelter staff perspective is hilarious because since his ordeal with us, has gotten caught in our traps 3x since then. But we digress.

Catrick Swayze was trapped and taken to Logan County Animal Clinic. He was a true, feral cat. Dr Todd had to sedate him just to examine him. He had gotten into a fight and had puncture marks at his 'elbow'. While sedated, he was neutered and given his vaccinations. After recovery, we let him go as being kept indoors was extremely stressful to him, as a true wild cat.

We set up an outdoor home for him with an entry into our shed and under our building. He is regularly fed and assessed although we can never get more than 10 feet from him before he runs. But some mornings, he comes to visit us (well, maybe he just visits the other cats through the door, but it makes us feel better if we think it's us). Operation is still alive and well. Don't think we've given up on this dapper gentleman. He's looking a little thin. Please wish us luck as we try over the next few days to trap and get flea/tick/dewormer meds on him.

HE WILL LOVE US ONE DAY.

Cleocatra has officially been EVICTED from her kennel and made the new shelter manager.

Cleocatra is a senior kitty. Every photo we have is her sitting in a box in her kennel with her head down. It's almost like she's given up ever being loved again. She rarely comes out anymore, and when she does, she hides.

So as of yesterday, Ms ma'am has been evicted from her kennel. No more hiding. No more giving up. Her loving folks are out there, we just know it!

She's standing tall today. Lording over the shelter as only a good supurrvisor can.

If you'd like a senior, chill, snuggle bug, Ms Cleocatra is here! She is a sponsored kitty and is free to an appropriate home. She has had a wellness exam, but would probably do well to have a full blood panel done at her age to check on her kidneys, etc.

We talk a lot about fosters for mamas and babies... but senior kitties like Ms Cleocatra would also flourish with a place in a home for a few weeks just to feel like she 'belongs' somewhere and feels loved. She's almost given up, but she still accepts pets and leans in when you love her. She just doesn't expect anyone to try anymore. If you can't commit long-term, but can offer this sweet old gal a space for a few weeks to remember what it's like to be part of a family, please stop in or send us a message.

She deserves the world. But a soft spot with lots of love for a few weeks is a good start.

Meet Ms Gretel. Gretel is very new to us. Can't be more than 6-7 months old. Just as soon as we get her in our system, a kennel set up, microchip and vaccine... Well, she has babies within 24 hours of all that.

We are incredibly grateful to the powers that be that this happened when we first arrived in the next morning. If she had gone into labor last night, we might have lost them all - mama included.

But she waited until around 9 am. Mama is very young. Has little experience and it took her a while for instincts to kick in. Staff had to turn our kennel cleaning cart into a sterile surgical cart on a dime. Clamp and cut every cord, open the last 2 sacs and clean and warm all of the babies for her.

Mama is not mean, or uninterested or a 'bad mom'. She is very young, exhausted and was very unsure as she doesn't yet know or trust us. But a few scritches and she started trusting us which was a magical moment.

This is why it is VERY important that you spay/neuter all of your animals and any you feed, when you can. She and her kittens are the lucky ones - they were with folks who knew how to handle the situation. But there are thousands (yes, literally THOUSANDS) in our county right now that we don't have the space, time or budget to help. They suffer and perish without anyone ever even noticing them. Spay/neuter is the only "fix" to the problem.

Please contact us if you need any information on low cost spay/neuter programs in the area and we will help you find the best fit for you and your location/circumstances.

Our local vets don't get the grants and donations that the low-cost clinics do to offer such low costs, but if you're able, support our local vets and get it done through them! However it happens, please, spay/neuter. It saves lots and lots of lives.

CAN YOU HELP?
An animal emergency today (a very young kitty with an unexpected birth and some serious struggles for her and the babies) left us woefully behind and we sure could use your help!

If you have an hour or two to volunteer tomorrow (Saturday) we would appreciate it more than you know!

We need help with feeding, cleaning, restocking, laundry, dishes, making phone calls and other administrative tasks, not to mention just spending time with some of our sweet little kittens who need handling and attention.

Please comment below or send us a message if you have a bit of time to pitch in. And THANK YOU!!!

Today we had our farewell lunch for our shelter manager, Jennifer. While we will miss her greatly, we fully support her decision to step away temporarily to focus on family matters. Family always comes first.

Jennifer has brought so much compassion, dedication, and heart to our little shelter, and we are incredibly grateful for everything she has done for our animals and our community. Please join us in wishing her peace, strength, and safe travels back to the mountains. You will always be part of our shelter family!

WE'RE HIRING!
Part-Time Kennel Technician / Animal Care Associate

The Humane Society for Logan County is looking for a dependable, compassionate person (18 or over) to join our team and help care for our cats, while supporting adoptions, shelter operations, our PAWsitive Impact community programs, and our mission to reduce pet overpopulation in Logan County.

Shelter work can be amazing and it can also be awful, both on the same day! Plus, it's hard work. You’ll clean. A lot. You’ll answer phones, help adopters, comfort scared cats, talk with frustrated community members, carry heavy bags of litter, smell like cat, and go home exhausted, physically and often emotionally.

BUT you’ll also help frightened cats learn to trust again, watch families fall in love with a new companion, celebrate adoptions and reunions, help our community cat population and make a real difference for animals in Logan County.

This is a Part-time position | 20–25 hours/week | Some weekends & some holidays required

If you’re hardworking, reliable, compassionate, and ready to do work that matters, we’d love to hear from you.

Please share to help us find the right people !!!!

Click on the link in the comments to get all the information and apply with your resume before Monday May 31!

(Must be 18 or over and have your own reliable transportation.)
