Today is Pet Obesity Awareness Day, and it is a good reminder that those extra treats add up.

Carrying extra weight makes everyday movement harder on your pet and can affect their comfort and energy over time. The encouraging part is that small changes to food, portions, and activity really do make a difference.

Not sure where your pet stands? Call or text us to schedule a weight check and a nutritional consultation!

McDonough county has had a bat test positive for rabies so here’s what everyone needs to know!

1. Bats commonly try to get inside this time of year so this is when a lot of exposures and testing happens. If you get a bat in the house and it needs to be tested DO NOT smash the head (the brain is what needs to be tested.) DO NOT freeze the bat. We can humanely euthanize bats that need to be tested while ensuring a quality sample is maintained.

2. Contact the health department or your doctor for determination of testing needs. (Generally recommended for known bites or scratches, children/people that wake up in a room with a bat, pets that have had contact, etc.)

3. There is NO CURE for rabies and testing can only occur on dead mammals (because a piece of the brain is what is tested) so PREVENTION is key. Make sure your pets are vaccinated and kept current on rabies vaccines. People always say “my cat doesn’t go outside.” See #1. Bats are trying to find a winter home and are coming inside this time of the year. Who do you think will have a fun time catching and playing with an indoor bat?! Yep, that cat doesn’t go outside.

✨️ Check out this new product we've been trying out. A lot of customers are swearing by it! ✨️
Does your pet get anxious during thunderstorms, fireworks, vet visits, car rides, when left home alone, or any other behavioral issues?

Anxiety can be stressful for both pets and their families, but there are options that can help.
Solliquin is a behavioral health supplement designed to support calm behavior and help pets better cope with everyday stressors. It can be a great option for dogs and cats who experience mild to moderate anxiety and may be used as part of a broader anxiety management plan. ✨

Benefits of Solliquin may include:
Promoting a sense of calm
Supporting healthy behavior during stressful situations
Helping with travel-related anxiety
Assisting with noise sensitivities and environmental stressors
Supporting a more comfortable veterinary visit experience

Every pet is different, and finding the right anxiety management plan may involve a combination of supplements, training, environmental changes, and sometimes prescription medications.

If your pet struggles with anxiety, our team would be happy to discuss whether Solliquin may be a good option for them! 🐾💕

On Friday, July 3rd, we will be CLOSED in observance of the 4th of July holiday. In the event of an emergency, please contact your nearest emergency vet clinic. Our sister clinic in Mt. Sterling will be open July 3rd as well.

Please make sure all medications, preventions, and foods are picked up by 4:45pm on Thursday July 2nd.

As you prepare for holiday celebrations, please remember that fireworks, parties, and gatherings can be stressful—and sometimes dangerous—for our pets. Here are a few tips to help keep them safe:

🐾 Keep pets indoors during fireworks displays.
🐾 Make sure collars and ID tags are up to date.
🐾 Provide a quiet, secure space where they can feel comfortable.
🐾 Avoid sharing party foods, especially foods that may be toxic to pets.
🐾 Keep alcoholic beverages, glow sticks, sparklers, and fireworks out of reach.
🐾 If your pet has a history of anxiety during fireworks, be sure to plan ahead and contact your veterinarian for medications before the holiday.

We hope everyone has a safe, happy, and pet-friendly Fourth of July! ❤️🐶🐱
