Last night, I had to say goodbye to a very special boy. ❤️

Turbo was 15 years old, and although I only had the privilege to watch him twice, he left a mark on my heart that I’ll never forget.

You never really can prepare for these kinds of goodbyes. You can prepare for feeding schedules, medications, walks, cuddles, and all the little things that come with caring for someone’s pets. but you can’t plan to find out that your client’s senior dog is suddenly critically ill. And you certainly can’t plan to be there for your client’s dog while their family is miles away, helping them through something no one ever expected.

Last night, Turbo became extremely uncomfortable and began crying in a way I had never heard from him before. I knew something wasn’t right. I stayed with him, kept his family updated, and took him to an emergency veterinarian because I knew he needed more help than I could give him at home.

The vet discovered that Turbo had stomach cancer and explained that he could pass at any time. His family was made aware of everything and made the incredibly difficult decision to let him go peacefully. They were able to be there with him through FaceTime while I stayed by Turbo’s side in person. But… before we could say goodbye, Turbo passed away peacefully on his own.

I am completely heartbroken. Even though I wasn’t his person for his entire 15 years, I’m so grateful I was able to be there for him when he needed someone.

This is something I wish more people understood about pet sitting. We aren’t just there to feed your pets and keep them company. Sometimes we’re there for the scary moments, unexpected emergencies, and middle of the night trips to the emergency vet. Sometimes we’re the person physically there with your pet when their family can’t be.

That is a responsibility I will never take lightly.

To Turbo’s family, thank you for trusting me with your boy. I’m so sorry you had to experience this from afar, but I hope you know Turbo was loved, comforted, and never alone.

MEET THE BUNCH! 🐾

If you’ve been following Koda’s Legacy for a while, you’ve probably seen me share a few little bios introducing some of the amazing animals I get the privilege of caring for. You may have already seen Ziggy’s debut recently, but I figured it was finally time to introduce the whole bunch!💙

🐶 Kane, who I nicknamed Pops is a sweet, handsome, and absolutely NOT a morning person, Kane is a late riser and would prefer that everyone respect his beauty sleep until at least 11 AM. 😂 He’s also the first one to growl and let you know when vibes feel off. Gotta love a built in security system! I absolutely love his big head and, of course, his cuddles… when he decides he’s in the mood for them. 🥹

🐕 Kandi A beautiful, loving brown Lab and certified FOODIE of the bunch! If there’s food involved, Kandi is clocking in. And yes she LOVES her marinara like the true Italian she is🍝😂 She can be a little nervous sometimes, but overall she is such a sweet little love bug. 🤎

🐶 Then there’s Kobi, I’m pretty sure Kobi is the best cuddler I’ve ever met. 🥹 His biggest flaw? He has a very questionable hobby of eating poop.💀 He absolutely LOVES playing with his new little brother (most of the time 😉), and you can pretty much guarantee Kobi will be within five feet of you at all times. He’s the ultimate little shadow.🐾

🐶 Ziggy little BABY SHARK! 🥹🦈 I gave him his nickname because of his little sharp baby teeth if it isn’t obvious. 😂 He loves playing with his toys, wrestling around with his big brother Kobi, and getting all the kisses he can possibly get. He’s also a huge fan of his Dunkin’ latte ☕️ and his Toy Story alien toys. 👽

These four are such an amazing bunch, and I’m SO excited that their family found Koda’s Legacy and trusted me to become a part of their lives. 🥰I can’t wait to watch little Ziggy grow up and continue creating memories with every single one of them. They’ve already brought so much personality, love, and laughter into one week, and I’m so excited for everything still to come. 🙌
