We are in need of the following items!!!!

Paper towels, laundry detergent, bleach, dish soap, dish sponges, linens, newspaper, small plastic or fabric toys, adult dry food, kitten dry food, kitten wet food, Clorox wipes, trash bags, small plastic or metal wet food dishes, and monetary donations.

Over the last week we have taken in 22 cats to start moving in our waitlist. Pictured below are a few of the healthy felines that are now in are care. We are extremely grateful to everyone who donates their time, funds, or supplies to our shelter and want to spend some time explaining how donations make a big difference!

During this round of intakes we have received four felines with ringworm this takes extra time and supplies to help cure without spreading. Four very young felines who were found amidst a fire, a young adult who needed emergency surgery for lacerations under his front arms, and many sweet but very messy kittens. Meaning supplies such as kitten food goes quickly, monetary funds are needed for basic and additional vet care, and keeping a clean shelter using adequate supplies helps keep our felines healthy and happy! We truly couldn’t do what we do without the support we receive from our community.

Day four of five resilient felines!

Being in a shelter surrounded with a new and unknown environment can cause felines to shut down and not show their true personality making it harder to find a willing family to take the risk of adopting what can sometimes be seen as just a fractious feline. This is the story of Fergalicious or as we like to call her “Fergi”. When surrendered to our shelter Fergi had 11 years of one lifestyle, a quiet one with no other pets. We know change can be scary but for Fergi and cats like her it is more than just scary or overwhelming it is terrifying and sickening. When entering the shelter she was nervous but okay with being handled slowly, over time being handled or viewed was something that she could not tolerate as it was even more stressful and scary to Fergi causing her to be overlooked in the shelter. However shelter staff knew there was hope for the Fergi we had yet to see but knew was there. So when we received a call one day a few weeks ago about a possible foster interest in Fergalicious
we couldn’t be more than thrilled. When the wonderful couple came into the shelter they gave Fergi a chance that doesn’t come often. to take a risk on a shut down lady who needed help and it has more than paid off. A once non touchable cat now cuddling, getting baths, and enjoying human interaction. We have learned a lot about who Fergi is and how amazing she truly is all because of fostering. To see her bloom in a home it cant help but melt our hearts. If you have ever considered fostering or fostering to adopt a shut down feline know the impact you can make, take joy in learning the true personality of someone who is scared, and know it does change the life of one who may have lost hope.

Thank you for taking the time to learn about Big Mama and her story with socialization from the help of volunteering. And while Fergi has found her forever home we hope her story shares the importance of fostering and how it can help a local shelter near you!

Day three of five resilient felines!
Today we want to spotlight Big Mama. This beautiful girl was surrendered to our shelter after she was trapped from a local feral colony. When we were thinking of many ways a feline can be resilient we wanted to share the story of not just medical care needed in our shelter but the amount of time and dedication needed to help socialize felines. Big Mama is a great example of what it means to be resilient. She was a frightened little girl who was not only in a new place but surrounded by something even scarier, humans. Over the last three months Big Mama has shown us she has the desire to be loved like the cats she’s surrounded by and boy has she put in effort to get to know what humans can provide. She’s actively learning, seeking out human affection, play time, and loves to cuddle other cats that have helped support her story in our care. To see the hope in her eyes grow and watch the fear fade has been a heart warming experience to say the least. she was hesitant, cautious, and weary but traded all of her doubts for the hope of being loved. Though her social skills are something still in progress she has worked incredibly hard to show us that she is eager to engage. Big mama teaches us that time and patience is well worth every second we spend with her and others like her. Thanks to the help of friendly felines taking big mama under their wings, volunteers dedicated to her improvement, and staff willing to help her reach the goals we could very clearly see she wanted. Big Mama is ready to take on a new adventure and this time with a furrrever family.

Day two of five resilient felines! Today we are sharing mitochondria and the wild adventure she’s had since coming to Mghs. Her journey begins whenever she met MGHS staff along side her other family members when pulled from a hoarding situation earlier this year. Mitochondria was taken to the vet a day after arriving due to bloody puss spraying out of her ears. It was obvious to shelter staff mitochondria was scared and in pain. During her visit, the veterinarian said her ears had major infection and needed to be deep cleaned and prescribed antibiotics. We now know this was just the beginning of her healing process and a much more serious infection than we had expected. While mitochondria was taking her daily medication at the shelter, she started to warm up and show her true self. Since then we have learned a lot about her personality. She drools when she gets pets, enjoys cuddling into a comfy bed, and loves wet food or treats. After four additional follow up appointments with many ear cytology’s ran, ear cleanings, and medications. Mitochondria’s ear issues are not yet resolved but we do know she is now ready to see a specialist for a possible polyp in the ear canal after this round of antibiotics are completed. Mitochondria has shown shelter staff how even when in pain love makes the world of difference. Thank you for taking the time to learn about mitochondria and her wild adventure to have healthy ears. This week we want to share some of our felines who require a little extra attention and care. We are going to spot light five felines over the week who are resilient and show up eager for life. Today we want to share Marshall and his story so far in our care at Mghs!! This little guy was found by a carrying individual who spotted him in the parking lot of a local grocery store.
Marshall came into the shelter with both eyes crusted shut and major inflammation, causing him to not be able to see his surroundings. Marshall was emaciated and had minor uri issues. Over the first few days in foster Marshall needed to be fed small amounts often and even via syringe as he was not interested in eating. He was seen by a local veterinary office as his inflation and ocular condition worsened. At that time he was prescribed more medication and staff were even given the recommendation to have a humidifier in the area he was housed to help with his respiratory issues. Since then Marshall has shown his willingness to love and play! Though Marshall’s journey has just started he is gaining weight, starting to see the world differently, and blossoming into the most cuddly, curious, well behaved boy! Tuesday Marshall will see a local ophthalmologist for his eyes and hopefully continue to improve each day!! When you chose to support our shelter cats like Marshall get the opportunity to not only learn the joys of life but also the comfort knowing people do care, people are good, and we are here to help always in anyway we can. Because cats like Marshall deserve a chance at life.
