Thanks Hot Springs Police Department for letting us come out and train with you today. Our handlers going through our handler course got to be part of some really good training today.

HSPD’s Community Policing Response Team (CPRT) and K-9 Units, Saline County SO K-9 Unit along with the Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy Staff took part in a K-9 and Team Movement training today. The training took place in ALETA’s new Shoot House facility. We want to thank ALETA and Staff for hosting us and being part of this training. -9

Our first Introduction to Patrol K9 tactics class has come to and end. Day 5 was all scenarios that the teams had to work through using everything they've learned during the week. I didn't get pictures today, but one of the handlers made this video from videos he made yesterday.

Thank you to all the handlers for giving 100% and being willing to learn and maybe do things differently than you ever have. Also thank you Todd Aitken for coming out and helping in different areas. Thank you to Rick Morphew for bringing everybody lunch. That was greatly appreciated.

Day 4 was building searches all day. We built on the pieces from the previous days to use good tactics to clear buildings. One more day to go.

Day 3 down. The handlers were able to take the pieces from the first 2 days, doing obedience around officers and neutrality to gunfire, and put them together to do felony traffic stop scenarios.

Day 2 in the books. We started the day with Pafford Medical Services Garland Co Operations Supervisor and STRIIK Team Tactical Medic, Todd Aitken, teaching the handlers a K9 medicine class. The handlers learned how to do evaluations on their dogs in the field during critical incidents, and even packed actual gun shot wounds (on pig shanls).

In the afternoon we went to the range. The handlers fired live rounds with their dogs and had a competition that included moving and shooting with their dogs, and a task for the dog to complete at the end. Chandler Overton with Garland County Sheriff's Office convincingly won the competition with his dog Echo.

We had a great first day of our Patrol tactics class. We have some great teams and I'm looking forward to seeing how they progress through the week.

Dollar is still available. He's almost a year old and would make a great dog for a handler of any experience level.

Attention K9 handlers, we will be hosting a 40 hour introduction to K9 patrol tactics class June 8th through the 12th. This class will be taught by experienced K9 trainers who have thousands of real world K9 deployments with Patrol and SWAT. We will work with K9s and their handlers in the following areas:
•Obedience around other officers
•Obedience during gunfire
•Felony traffic stops
•Tactics for building searches
