Letâs talk about âworking for mealsâ as enrichment or even in training.
This doesnât mean making your dog work for food when theyâre absolutely starving. Thatâs not a healthy approach and can create unnecessary stress and frustration around food. I dunno about you but I am not my best self or do my best work when I'm "hangry.
Your dogâs meals are a biological need- they shouldnât have to earn the right to eat.
Instead, think of it as using their daily food allotment as enrichment. You can put some in a snuffle mat, scatter feed it, use a puzzle, or incorporate it into training.
Theyâre still getting the food they need- weâre just giving them opportunities to forage, sniff, explore, and problem-solve along the way.
