Have an old dog crate lying around? Taking up room in your garage or backyard? You can help us out!

✅ We need large hard/plastic sided dog crates.

We use these crates for fosters and to transport dogs to events and vet appointments safely. With our growing foster program and multiple events every month, our current crates have gotten a little beat up over time and need replacing.

We prefer crates that can hold dogs that are 50+ pounds, but feel free to send us a message if you aren't sure about the size! Pictures help!

❌ What we cannot accept:
- No wire crates
- Rusted or broken crates

🐾 Max's Dog Day Out! 🐾

Max got his first break from the shelter and enjoyed some nice hiking at Mayo Lake Park! 🏞️

Though he was a little shy meeting new people, but he soon warmed up and took advantage of his new friends to get some loving. 🛻 He wasn't too sure about getting in the car, but once he was in, he settled nicely and seemed to enjoy the ride.

Here's what his DDO friends had to say: "We went on a 2 hour hike and Max would stop the hike for pets and hugs. He loves to sniff and would be a great dog to bring on outdoor adventures."

Join us in raising awareness about rabies prevention for World Rabies Day!💉

The CDC reports: "In the U.S., around 4,000 animal rabies cases are reported each year, with more than 90% occurring in wildlife like bats, raccoons, skunks, and foxes...three out of four Americans live in a community where raccoons, skunks, or foxes carry this deadly disease."🦨🦝🦊

We'd like to take this time to remind everyone that the shelter offers 1-year rabies vaccines anytime we are open for only $10!
We also host multiple rabies clinics each year, where we usually have a vet available to administer 3-year vaccines.

❗Most importantly, keep your dogs, cats, and ferrets up to date on rabies vaccines! It is required by NC state law!❗

Kennel vs. Couch❤️‍🩹

After 2.5 months in a kennel, waiting for his new family, Allen has grown restless. 💔What potential adopters see when they visit the kennels is Allen barking, jumping, and stressed. 😥This snapshot of Allen doesn’t do his playful, loving side any justice.

Outside of his kennel, Allen loves toys and and might even come in for a cuddle once he’s stretched his legs. 🥰

We know people like seeing the dogs in person. It can be hard to determine size and personality from a pictures and some words. 🩵But please remember that dogs can be completely different outside of their kennel. Stress might be hiding the perfect dog for your family.
