🎀 Tiny paws, big personality! 🎀
Dixie visited us for her very first vet appointment today. At just 10 weeks old and 4.7 pounds, this sweet beagle girl already has us wrapped around her little paw. 🐾💕
Welcome to the Animal Hospital of Rowlett family, Dixie!

⚠️ New World Screwworm Update for Texas Pet Owners

You may have seen recent news stories about New World Screwworms (NWS) moving north through Mexico and concerns about potential spread toward Texas.

While there is no need to panic, it is a good reminder to keep a close eye on your pets and promptly address any wounds, even small ones.

🐾 What is a New World Screwworm?
Unlike typical maggots that feed on dead tissue, New World Screwworm larvae feed on living tissue, causing painful wounds that can become severe if left untreated.

🐾 What should pet owners watch for?
✔️ Any wound, scratch, bite, or surgical incision that isn’t healing normally
✔️ Swelling or discharge from a wound
✔️ A strong or unusual odor
✔️ Excessive licking, chewing, or irritation at a wound site
✔️ Lethargy, pain, or decreased appetite

🐾 How can you help protect your pet?
✅ Check your pet regularly for wounds or skin irritation
✅ Keep wounds clean and monitored
✅ Follow post-surgical care instructions carefully
✅ Seek veterinary attention if you notice anything unusual

🐾 If you suspect a problem
Contact your veterinarian right away. Early detection is important and gives pets the best chance for a successful outcome.

The good news is that the United States has successfully controlled and eradicated New World Screwworm outbreaks before, and veterinary and agricultural professionals are actively monitoring the situation.

🐾 Pardon Our Dust! 🐾

Exciting things are happening at Animal Hospital of Rowlett!

Over the next week, we'll be renovating our cat boarding area to create an even more comfortable, relaxing, and feline-friendly experience for our kitty guests. 😺

You may notice a little extra noise, dust, or activity while the work is underway. We appreciate your patience as we make improvements that will benefit our patients and boarders for years to come.

Thank you for bearing with us during construction—we promise it will be worth it! ❤️

🐱 Cat boarding services will continue with minimal disruption, and our team is working hard to keep everyone safe and comfortable throughout the project.

Stay tuned for photos of the finished space!

Today is World Pet Memorial Day, a day dedicated to remembering the pets who changed our lives, made us laugh, comforted us through hard times, and somehow convinced us they deserved (more than) half our bed.

In vet med, we witness these bonds every day.

We see the excitement of new pets.
We see the joy of healthy years together.
And we see the heartbreak that comes when it's time to say goodbye.
