The Blind Spot Animal Sanctuary Blind Spot Animal Sanctuary is a nonprofit organization that saves animals Nearly all come to Blind Spot injured, sick and confused.
(205)

The Blind Spot Animal Sanctuary (BSAS) is a plant based, nonprofit, (501(c)(3)), farm animal sanctuary based in Rougemont, NC. BSAS is an all-volunteer organization with no paid staff that cares for over 100 farm animals that reside on a beautiful 41 acres farm. Through no fault of their own, countless farm animals are hurt, neglected, slaughtered, abandoned & many find themselves in overcrowded shelters. Here at Blind Spot we fight for these animals every day through education and our life saving efforts. Many of the animals we rescue came to us from overcrowded shelters, were rescued from starvation, abuse, slaughter or severe neglect. Here at the Sanctuary, every animal is provided with lifesaving and routine veterinary care, personal attention, individual care, proper housing and diet. Most importantly, every animal gets a chance to lead a natural, healthy and meaningful life. Blind Spot not only actively saves lives but also has an adoption program and focuses on education. BSAS team places adoptable animals in carefully screened forever homes and hosts free educational tours throughout the year. The founders speak at NC State, host students and hold seminars. Blind Spot cares deeply about its community. And, in times of crisis, BSAS is there to help. During Hurricanes Florence and Michael, Blind Spot offered refuge for families that had large animals and nowhere to put them and were in danger from floods. During Covid-19, BSAS assisted close to 300 farm animals and ensured they had full bellies while their humans were trying to get back on their feet. BSAS is home to countless residents, including horses, donkeys, pigs, goats, alpacas, chickens, sheep, emus, and peacocks. BSAS is changing mindsets & is one of the most active rescue organizations in NC. Vision Statement

“The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.” ― Mahatma Gandhi

To live in a world where
- There is no need for animal rescue or shelters
- All animals are treated with respect and care throughout their life
- Society enjoys the wonder and miracle of animals, making it senseless to use animals for entertainment or experimental purposes

❤️ YOU SHOWED UP WHEN OUR ANIMALS NEEDED YOU. THANK YOU! 🥹🐷

Friends, from the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU! ❤️

When the days are long, expenses keep climbing, and exhaustion takes over, YOU remind us that we aren’t alone.

To our incredible Facebook family who rallied around our animals, everyone who donated through other channels, and our precious repeat donors who consistently show up — THANK YOU! 🥹❤️

Running a sanctuary is physically, emotionally, and financially exhausting. Between daily care, individual meals, medications, emergencies, veterinary appointments, and hoof and tusk trims, there simply aren’t enough hours in the day.

Today was wonderful but exhausting, and the coming weeks will be brutal with back-to-back veterinary appointments and medical care.

But every single life is worth it. EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. ❤️

💔 CAN WE ASK OUR INSTAGRAM FAMILY SOMETHING FROM THE HEART?

We have more than TWICE as many followers here as on Facebook. Our videos are watched, our animals are loved, and our posts receive attention.

Yet, despite our heartfelt appeal, Instagram raised only around $100, mostly from 1–3 incredibly kind repeat donors. We are beyond grateful to them! ❤️

We understand not everyone can give. Sharing, commenting, and following matter, too.

But we’re questioning whether maintaining Instagram is sustainable. Managing two platforms takes precious time away from animal care, and likes and views don’t pay veterinary bills or fill hungry bellies. 💔 It won’t even feed the extra animals we are feeding.

It hurts to consider leaving a community we’ve worked so hard to build.

Instagram friends, should we keep showing up here? What could we do differently to turn all this love into meaningful support? 🥺

We aren’t asking for applause. We’re asking because we want to keep saving lives, and we cannot do it alone.

❤️ To our Facebook family, loyal donors, volunteers, and everyone standing beside us: YOU make this work possible! Thank you! 🙏♥️♥️♥️

Through the exhaustion and heartbreak, this work remains incredibly meaningful.

Because farm animals deserve the world, too. A precious few live as cherished individuals, surrounded by love and kindness, while millions wait for humanity to see them as someone, not something.

Until that world changes, we’ll keep fighting for the ones we can save. 🐷❤️

Thank you for believing their lives matter.

❤️ Please share your thoughts, share our mission, and help us turn compassion into action.

💔 WE HAVE NEVER STOPPED SHOWING UP FOR THE ANIMALS. BUT LATELY, I’VE BEEN WONDERING HOW MUCH LONGER CAN WE KEEP GOING 🥺🐷

171 lives depend on us. We’re exhausted, overwhelmed, and facing mounting expenses. But giving up on them will NEVER be an option.

Friends, you may have noticed that we haven’t been posting as much lately. The truth is, we are exhausted. And for the first time in a long time, I feel discouraged. 💔

Alex and I both work full-time jobs so we never have to take a salary from the sanctuary. Every dollar donated goes toward the mission we have dedicated our lives to.

There are no mornings to sleep in. No days off from feeding, cleaning, medications, emergencies, and caring for 150 rescued souls. We wake before the sun, care for our residents, head to work, and come home to do it all over again.

We love this life. But loving it doesn’t mean we don’t get tired. ❤️

Veterinary bills are running into the thousands. Winter is coming. Hay prices have doubled. We are stocking up on bedding, feed, and supplies to keep everyone safe and warm.

And because I couldn’t bear the thought of animals quietly starving, I personally took on feeding 21 additional animals who aren’t even sanctuary residents. Animals who otherwise suffer and perish, as others already have.

That’s 171 lives depending on us. And our feed is disappearing faster than ever.

I’ve wanted to fundraise for weeks. But every day, I ran out of daylight, energy, and, truthfully, hope.

After losing so much of our following, I found myself wondering:

Who is even seeing our posts anymore? Who will donate? Is anyone still listening? 💔

But then I look into the faces of our residents.

They don’t know about social media algorithms, declining donations, or how exhausted we are.

They only know that tomorrow morning, someone will show up with breakfast. That their beds will be warm. That when they’re hurting, someone will get them help.

And we cannot let them down.

For years, Blind Spot Animal Sanctuary has been a safe place for animals who had nowhere else to go. We’ve shown up for animals, families, shelters, and communities, year after year.

Today, I’m asking you to show up for us. 🙏

🐷 It’s $5 Friday. Can you spare just $5?

Please prove my discouragement wrong. Remind me that our little sanctuary still has a community standing behind it.

If you cannot donate, PLEASE SHARE this post. Comment ❤️ so more people see it. Help us reach the friends we’ve lost along the way.

We aren’t asking for ourselves. We’re asking for the 171 lives who cannot ask for help.

And from the bottom of my very tired but endlessly grateful heart, thank you for reminding us that we are not doing this alone. ❤️🐷

🫒❤️ From a broken heart to a happy little pig. Meet the NEW Olive! 🐷

Friends, you would hardly recognize Olive today. 🥹❤️

When Olive lost her owner, her piglets were rehomed, and she was left behind, alone on an empty property. She didn’t just lose her home. She lost her entire world. 💔

When we rescued her, Olive was struggling physically and emotionally. She sank into a deep sadness, spending most of her days sleeping, seemingly trying to cope with everything she had lost.

But look at her NOW! 🥹❤️

After quarantine, Olive chose her very own herd of handsome bachelors. She was spayed, received the veterinary care she desperately needed, and slowly began finding herself again.

And what a transformation! ❤️

The little girl who once slept her days away now seeks affection, nudges us for pets, explores, and enjoys life again!

THIS is the power of proper veterinary care, friendship, and allowing pigs to be pigs. ❤️🐷

Olive is also one of our tiniest residents, with the most adorable smooshed little face you could ever kiss! 😘🫒

Now, wouldn’t it be wonderful if Olive’s next chapter included a forever family of her very own? 🥹

Olive is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and ready to be loved. She deserves a home where she’ll never have to experience loneliness again.

🏡 Could you be Olive’s happily ever after?

❤️ Please SHARE her story! Somewhere out there is a family who doesn’t yet know they’re missing a little Olive in their lives.

🐷 Adopt. Don’t shop. Give a rescued pig a second chance.

SOS! Alex left me in charge of dinner service for 150 VERY judgmental residents! 😬🤣

Well, friends, Alex had a work commitment, which meant yours truly was promoted to Head Chef, Waitress, and Chaos Coordinator at Blind Spot Animal Sanctuary. 🤣

The reviews are in: ZERO STARS! ⭐️🚫

Nobody listened. Everybody complained. Dinner was apparently 47 minutes late, even when it wasn’t. And the customers were downright RUDE! 🤣🐷

BUT… I DID IT! 💪 150 bellies filled in just 2 hours!

Alex, you owe me. BIG TIME. 🤣

👇 Who else lives with animals who act like they’ve NEVER been fed before?

❤️ Follow our sanctuary for more adventures in running a 150-resident retirement community where the customers are always right… apparently! 🤣

And guess what?! 🎉 Next month, our chubby little heartthrob turns ONE WHOLE YEAR OLD! 🎂🐽❤️

From a tiny rescued baby to our spoiled, snuggly big boy. Where has the time gone?! 😭💕

We’re going to CELEBRATE in a few weeks, and we hope you’ll celebrate with us! 🥳

❤️ Who’s been following Randolph’s journey since he was just a tiny baby? Drop him a comment and follow along for his big milestone! 🐷💕

❤️ 24 Hours. THREE SCARES. AND A WHOLE LOT OF LOVE. ❤️

Behind the scenes at a sanctuary, the waves sometimes come crashing in all at once.

Last night, our horse Blanca scared us with a colic that required an urgent call to our vet. Overnight, we suddenly lost one of our senior alpacas. And this morning? Our sweet chicken Peaches was coughing.

When you love them, you don’t wait. You act. You worry. You do everything you can. ❤️‍🩹

Peaches is a puppy mill survivor who endured unimaginable conditions before being rescued. She was one of the birds discovered living in horrendous, overcrowded conditions when animal control intervened.

So when our team member noticed her coughing, we didn’t take chances. Totally worried we called Willow Oak Veterinary Hospital and got the green light to come in. We rushed her to the hospital where a wonderful vet, Dr. D’Avignon, examined her. Because she didn’t find anything wrong with Peaches, she got to stay there for observation.

And the news we desperately needed? PEACHES IS OKAY! 🥹🐔❤️ Not sick or unwell 🙌

It appears her crooked beak caused her to inhale food while eating. After a day of observation, our girl is doing just fine! She may not appreciate her unexpected hospital stay, but we are beyond grateful.

A heartfelt THANK YOU to Dr. D’Avignon and the entire Willow Oak Veterinary Hospital team for acting so quickly and caring for our girl. You gave us peace when our hearts were racing. ❤️

Sanctuary life isn’t always pretty. Sometimes it’s exhausting, heartbreaking, and terrifying. But every single animal is worth showing up for. Every. Single. Time.

🐾 If you believe every life deserves compassion, no matter the species, please share this post. Let’s remind the world that chickens deserve the same urgency, care, and love as every other animal. 🐔❤️

So glad it was all just a brief scare & Peaches just had a day out 🤣🙌

💔 Some goodbyes come quietly in the night, but leave an ache that echoes through an entire sanctuary.

Until we meet again, sweet Lottie. 🦙🌈

Friends, when you are a long-standing sanctuary, a place that becomes home to so many beautiful souls, there is one thing you can never promise them: more time. No matter how much love surrounds them, how carefully we care for them, or how desperately we wish we could slow the clock, eventually, we must say goodbye.

Overnight, we said goodbye to Lottie, our beloved senior alpaca. 💔

Lottie’s story with us began in 2021, when we opened our gates to six senior alpacas belonging to an elderly couple who had loved them dearly. The years had caught up with their caregivers, and they could no longer provide the care their beloved alpacas needed. So, we welcomed the oldest members of their little family first. Later, more of their relatives joined us, because keeping families together matters.

And among those first six was Lottie.

Over the years, one by one, we watched her original companions cross the rainbow bridge.

And somehow, sweet Lottie kept going.

As our alpacas have grown older, we have watched many of them slow down. Some eventually struggled to stand and needed our helping hands to get back on their feet. But Lottie surprised us. She kept going.

Just last night, we fed our residents their dinner and tucked everyone in for the night, as we have done countless times before. Lottie was there, surrounded by the familiar faces of her family and friends.

And sometime during the night, she quietly slipped away.

But in the middle of our heartbreak, there is one precious blessing we keep holding close. She didn’t struggle, she didn’t feel ill, she didn’t suffer. She left on her own terms.

Go find your sisters, sweet girl. ❤️ Tell them we miss them. Tell them their family is still loved here. Tell them we are keeping watch over the ones who remain.

And until we meet again, our sweet, spunky soul, thank you for letting us be part of your story.🌈

Until we meet again, Lottie. 💔🦙🌈

❤️ The hardest part of loving a senior dog is knowing that forever will never be long enough. 🥹🐾

Our sweet Cody is the oldest kid in the house, and while he’s doing remarkably well for his age, getting old comes with challenges.

We suspect our boy may be experiencing doggy dementia or sundowning. Some nights he’s confused, wandering around the house and barking endlessly. Other nights are peaceful. And some nights… well, let’s just say that getting up for work the next morning is an adventure. 🤣❤️

But then there are days when Cody acts like a naughty little puppy again!

He still steals treats with impressive skills, leaving the other dogs watching in admiration. And yesterday? He raided the cat litter box and looked VERY proud of his accomplishment. 🤦‍♀️🤣

That’s the thing about growing old. The body may slow down, the mind may get confused, but the personality and the little spark that makes them who they are can still shine so brightly. ❤️

Cody has been with us longer than any of our other animal kids. He’s been part of our lives through so many chapters that we simply cannot imagine a world without him.

And perhaps that’s what hurts the most about loving a senior. You become painfully aware that time is moving faster than you’d like.

So we take more walks. Give more kisses. Hold him a little longer. And cherish the ordinary moments that we know will someday become our most precious memories.

Senior dogs are absolute treasures. They don’t need to be young, healthy or perfect to deserve the whole world. ❤️

We don’t know how much time we have left with our sweet boy, but we know we’re going to fill every day with as much love as possible.

🐾 If you’ve ever loved a senior dog, you understand. Tell us about your golden oldie in the comments. Let’s celebrate these beautiful souls who make our lives so much richer. ❤️

And please share Cody’s story. Maybe it will remind someone that the older dogs are just as worthy of love as the puppies. 🥹🐾

💔 WHAT IF HUMANS STOPPED BELIEVING THEY WERE SUPERIOR… AND STARTED LEARNING FROM ANIMALS? 🐷🐶❤️

What if we looked at pigs the same way we look at dogs?

Nellie doesn’t see Randolph as just a pig. She sees someone she loves. Someone worth protecting. Someone she wants to mother, comfort, and keep safe. ❤️

She doesn’t question his species. She doesn’t measure his worth. She simply loves him.

And perhaps that’s the most heartbreaking part.

Animals don’t need to be taught compassion. Yet humans, who pride themselves on being the most intelligent species, still struggle to recognize the value of a life that looks different from their own.

What if, instead of teaching animals how to be more like us, we learned how to be more like them? 💔

🐷❤️ If Nellie can see Randolph as family, why can’t we see pigs as individuals worthy of love?

👉 Share if you believe compassion should have no species boundaries. Follow Blind Spot Animal Sanctuary for more stories that might just change the way you see animals. ❤️
