Floors are stained!❤️🙌🥳
We stood there looking at an estimate of $38,000 to have our concrete floors professionally acid stained with the three-color marble finish we wanted.
I looked at Jerrod and said, "I know we can do this ourselves. I know I can do this."
I'm pretty sure he thought I had lost my mind... but, as always, he trusted me.
So that's exactly what we did.
After getting that estimate, I did what I always do when I'm determined to figure something out—I took to the internet. I spent hours researching, watching videos, reading everything I could about acid staining concrete, learning the process from beginning to end, and convincing myself that we really could do it. By the time we started, I wasn't just hoping it would work... I believed it would.
For the last several days, we've lived on concrete dust, sore muscles, and determination.
We spent two full days scrubbing, pressure washing, and removing every tire mark from 3,500 square feet of concrete. Then came the acid staining—carefully layering three different colors to create the marble look we'd envisioned. Every section of the floor is completely unique, which is one of the things that makes decorative acid-stained concrete so beautiful. No two areas are exactly alike, and that's exactly the one-of-a-kind handcrafted look we were hoping to create. After that, we applied two coats of sealer and two coats of wax.
Today, as I walked across those finished floors, I couldn't help but smile.
We didn't just save $38,000.
We built another piece of Wags & Whiskers with our own hands.
Every stain, every late night, every sore muscle, every stressful moment—even our unexpected trip to the ER—is now part of this building's story.
One day our customers will walk across these floors and see a one-of-a-kind handcrafted marble finish. They won't know the hours, the sore muscles, the centipedes, the scorpions, or even the unexpected trip to the ER that made it possible—but we always will.
Was it worth it?
Ask me while I'm looking at these floors... and my answer will always be absolutely.
