Ranger's Legacy Equine Rescue RLER is a non profit IRS 501(c)3 organization EIN #32-0357825 . PayPal: [email protected] I found a spot to turn around and headed back to him.

On November 3rd of 2011, I was driving from Highland Meadows to Los Lunas on a desolate stretch of Hwy 6 in New Mexico. As I drove past a portion of the Isleta Reservation, I saw an extremely emaciated horse standing along the fenceline. When I pulled over, I was dumbfounded at the condition of the bay gelding (there is an album in photos). The words that fell from my mouth were "no way. there's just no way" dotted with expletives. I noticed the dried mud on his legs and knew he needed water along with food so I left a small bit of alfalfa that was in the back of my truck and, telling him I would be back, I continued on to Los Lunas which was still a half hour away. When I returned to where I had left him, he was no longer there. I left the water for him and drove along the fenceline looking for him. I finally saw him cresting a small hill heading away from the road. No matter how much I called to him, he did not turn around. Unfortunately, it was the last time I would see him alive. The day after I saw the gelding I called and spoke with an Isleta Ranger about the horse and he told me that someone had dumped him on their property a few weeks prior. They had tried to catch him when they first saw him but he avoided them and, as the reservation encompassed thousands of acres, they had no idea where he had ended up. He was willing to let me on the property but, since it was a Friday, I would have to wait until the following Monday for him to be available. After the phone call, I went back out to try to find the gelding. I would drive along the fenceline with binoculars, call for him, and hope that he would show up. I spent hours waiting for him on Saturday and Sunday. He never drank the water or ate the hay I left him so I could only hope he had found some elsewhere. Come Monday morning, I met the Isleta Ranger at the gate and he let me in with my trailer. My plan was to ride out and find the gelding. As I unloaded my horse, the Isleta Ranger said he would drive the fenceline and see what he could find. Just as I was stepping into the saddle, the Isleta Ranger came back and said riding out was not necessary. He had found the bay gelding laying dead along the trail leading to where I had left him food and water. He gave all he had left trying to reach what could have begun to save him. I spent some time with the gelding and, as I stroked his neck, I apologized for the humans who had let him down. I told him that I was sorry that I could not get to him soon enough and I named him Ranger for his preserverance and for the Isleta Ranger who had tried to help. I told him that he would not die in vain or be forgotten. That I would use his name to help others like him and in that moment, with my hand resting on the body of the little bay gelding, on November 10th 2011, Ranger's Legacy Equine Rescue was created.

Good evening from the rescue! ❤️🐴🌅

Just wanted to share tonight's beautiful sunset and wish everyone a wonderful evening.

It's been a pretty ordinary day around here, just taking care of the usual chores and keeping everything running.

Some days there's plenty to share, and other days there's not much to report. Today was one of those quieter days, and that's perfectly okay. 😊

Tomorrow is another day, and we'll see what it brings!

Wishing you all a peaceful evening and a good night's rest.

Goodnight from all of us here at the rescue! ❤️🐴

Good afternoon from the rescue! ❤️🐴☀️

Fence repairs are underway again today!

Cam is back, and this time he brought his friend Jace along to help. If you look closely at the picture, you can see their truck way out in the distance where they're working!

They're hoping to get the remaining perimeter fencing repaired today, which would be a tremendous relief after all the damage caused by the flooding.

And I have some good news! Thanks to those who contributed to our first fencing request, we received enough to cover Cam's entire first day of work! Thank you so much! ❤️

With two young men working today, I'm hoping we can accomplish quite a bit. Cam even offered to split his already very reasonable wages with Jace, but I would much rather see both of them fairly compensated for their hard work.

If anyone would still like to help with the fencing expenses, contributions marked "Fence Repair" would be greatly appreciated. Our usual donation options are available.

Hopefully, I'll have some more good progress to share before the day is over!

Thank you all for helping us get things back in order around here! ❤️🐴

Good morning from the rescue! ❤️🐴🐾

Apparently, Jasper has decided that barking is his version of honking the horn! 😂

I've been busy working on chores around the property this morning, and the dogs were waiting for me in the truck with the engine running and the air conditioning on.

I had to run inside to take a phone call since my cell signal isn't very good out in the driveway.

All of a sudden, I hear Jasper barking!

My first thought was, "Oh great, he's going to jump out the window!" He's done that before, and I figured he'd spotted something he wanted to chase.

So I hurried out the front door, and there he was, sitting in the truck, staring right at me!

I'm pretty sure he was saying, **"HEY! Are we going somewhere or what?!"** 😂

Apparently, I was taking too long, and Jasper felt the need to remind me that I had passengers waiting!

Never a dull moment with this boy! ❤️🐾

Good afternoon from the rescue! ❤️🐴☀️

It's been a busy morning around here, and I'm finally on the road heading into town!

I've got bagged feed to pick up, a few errands to take care of, and while I'm in town, I'm going to take advantage of the opportunity to get my early voting done as well.

I'm certainly glad the county got our dirt road graded! After all the damage from the flooding, it's wonderful to have a decent road to travel again. 😊

It's a beautiful day for a drive, and I'm hoping to get everything accomplished in one trip so I can head back to the ranch.

Just another busy day keeping things going out here! ❤️🐴

Good evening from the rescue! ❤️🐴🌅

Well, we made some good progress on the fence today!

The young gentleman who came out from Artesia spent several hours working on the flood-damaged fencing this afternoon, and I'm very pleased with what he accomplished!

He managed to get a long stretch of the third strand of barbed wire back up, which is a big step in the right direction. There's still plenty more to do, but it's wonderful to finally see some progress after all the damage those floods caused.

He'll be back on Wednesday to continue working, and I'm certainly grateful for his willingness to come all this way and help.

I took this picture of the fence as the sun was setting this evening. There's still work ahead of us, but seeing that wire back where it belongs sure makes me feel a little better! 😊

Thank you to everyone who continues to follow along and support the rescue. It means more than you know. ❤️

Have a wonderful evening, everyone! 🐴🌅

Good afternoon from the rescue! ❤️🐴☀️

What an absolutely gorgeous day! Beautiful blue skies, sunshine, and some good news to share!

I called a young man in Artesia this morning about repairing the fencing that was damaged during the flooding. Without hesitation, he said he was on his way! 😊

He's only asking **$10 an hour plus $50 per trip for fuel**, which I think is incredibly reasonable, especially considering how far he's traveling.

As many of you know, getting this fence repaired has become a priority, especially with the neighboring livestock wandering onto the property through the damaged sections.

Thankfully, I believe I already have most of the materials we'll need, including fencing, T-posts, and clips.

**What I could really use some help with is covering his labor and fuel expenses.** ❤️

I don't know yet how many hours or trips the repairs will require, so I can't give you a total cost just yet.

If anyone would like to contribute, any amount would be greatly appreciated! Our usual donation options are available.

**Please put "Fence Repair" in the note or memo section of your donation** so I can keep those contributions separate and apply them specifically to this project.

I'll share updates as the work progresses. I'm just so relieved to finally have someone coming out to tackle this!

Thank you all for your continued kindness and support! ❤️🐴

Good morning from the rescue! ❤️🐴

I know I've been a little quiet here the last couple of days, and I apologize for not keeping everyone updated.

There's been quite a bit going on behind the scenes lately, and I've been trying to keep up with everything that needs my attention. Between the regular rescue chores, catching up on things that have fallen behind, and dealing with a few other matters, it's been a little overwhelming.

So today, I'm going to give myself a bit of a mental health day. Of course, the horses and other animals still need their regular care, but I'm going to step away from social media and concentrate on getting a few things done without adding anything else to my plate.

I'll be back tomorrow with an update and hopefully a little more breathing room. 😊

Thank you all for your patience, understanding, and continued support. It means more than you know. ❤️🐴

Good morning, everyone. ❤️

Today is National Depression Screening Day, and I wanted to take a moment to recognize something that affects so many people, often without anyone around them realizing it.

We spend so much time taking care of others, whether they're people or animals, that sometimes we forget to take care of ourselves.

Your mental health matters, too. Please don't be afraid to reach out if you're struggling. ❤️

Good evening from the rescue! ❤️🐴

It's been a VERY long and busy day, and this is going to be my first and only post today!

I finally managed to get Rudy and Frenchie to the veterinarian for some much-needed attention. Between waiting for supplies, truck problems, flooded roads, and the weather, it's been one thing after another trying to get these appointments taken care of!

Rudy had his teeth done today. The first picture shows him getting his dental work, and the second is him standing by the trailer afterward, still trying to wake up from his sedation. Poor guy was a little groggy! 😂

Frenchie finally got his back legs treated and wrapped for scratches. For those unfamiliar with scratches, it's a skin condition that affects horses' lower legs. In Frenchie's case, the affected areas were dry and scabbed over, not open or weeping wounds.

I had to wait for the medication I ordered to arrive, and then, just as I was trying to get him in to have his legs properly treated and wrapped, the truck broke down and all that crazy weather hit us. Between the two, getting horses hauled anywhere became quite a challenge!

But today we finally got it done, and I'm so relieved! The third picture shows Frenchie getting his legs wrapped.

I only got home a little while ago. The dogs have had their supper, but I still need to get outside and feed the horses before I can call it a day.

It's been a long one, but I'm happy to have gotten these things accomplished. Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got some hungry horses waiting for their dinner! 😂🐴

Hope everyone has had a wonderful day! ❤️

Good evening from the rescue! ❤️🐴🌙

Well, I think I've officially run out of steam for today! 😂

Between everything else going on around here, I've spent a good part of the day unloading and moving hay. I've made some good progress, as you can see in the first picture, but there's still more to do. And you know what? **It's going to wait until tomorrow!**

We've got some beautiful weather ahead of us, so there's no reason to wear myself completely out trying to get everything done in one day. The hay isn't going anywhere!

And speaking of pictures, take a look at that second one! I caught this unusual cloud formation this evening. It almost looks like smoke rising into the sky, but it's actually a cloud. Pretty interesting, isn't it?

I'm grateful to have this hay here for the horses. If anyone would still like to help with the cost of yesterday's feed run, contributions are always appreciated. Every little bit helps, and I'm thankful for the support. ❤️

As for me, I'm in for the night, ready for some supper and a chance to put my feet up.

Hope you all have a lovely evening! ❤️🐴
