Here's a cat fact every senior-cat parent should know:

Cats are incredibly good at hiding signs of illness.

In the wild, showing weakness can make an animal vulnerable, so cats have evolved to be masters at masking discomfort and disease. That means your senior kitty may still be eating, purring, and cuddling even when something isn't quite right.

That's why subtle changes matter.

👀 Drinking more water
👀 Losing weight
👀 Sleeping more
👀 Changes in appetite
👀 Less jumping or climbing
👀 Changes in grooming
👀 Spending more time hiding
👀 Changes in litter box habits

🎉🐾 Celebrating 10 Years of Dr. Dianne Dawkins at Chattahoochee Animal Clinic! 🐾🎉

Today, we’re celebrating a very special milestone — 10 years of Dr. Dianne Dawkins being part of the Chattahoochee Animal Clinic family! ❤️

For a decade, Dr. Dianne has dedicated herself to caring for our patients, supporting their families, and making a difference in the lives of countless cats and dogs who have walked through our doors. From puppy and kitten visits to senior care, challenging diagnoses, surgery, preventive medicine, and everything in between, she brings knowledge, compassion, and genuine care to every patient.

But 10 years is more than a number. It represents thousands of exams, countless wagging tails and purrs, difficult conversations, happy endings, and the trust that families place in her every day.

Dr. Dianne, thank you for 10 incredible years of caring for our patients and being such an important part of the CAC team. We are so grateful for everything you do — and we can't wait to see what the next chapter brings! 🐶🐱💙

🐾💕 Meet a Furry Friend Friday: Ginger! 💕🐾

Everyone, meet Ginger! 🐶✨ She is the newest puppy to join the CAC family, and she made quite the first impression during her very first puppy visit!

Of course, a puppy this adorable couldn't possibly make it through a visit without being passed from person to person for some serious cuddles. 🥰 Our team was more than happy to take turns giving Ginger all the love and attention she deserved!

Her first puppy visit is the beginning of an important journey with us. These early visits allow us to monitor her growth and development, begin her vaccination series, screen for intestinal parasites, start appropriate prevention, and help her learn that a visit to the veterinarian can be a positive experience. 🩺🐾

And Ginger? She seems to have already figured out the most important part: CAC is a pretty great place to get spoiled! 😂💕

Welcome to the family, Ginger! We can't wait to watch you grow and see that sweet face at all your puppy visits ahead! 🐾❤️

🐾 Wellness Wednesday: Age Is Not a Disease

September is Senior Pet Month, and we're starting with something every dog and cat parent should remember:

Getting older doesn't automatically mean your pet has to feel old.

A slower pace, sleeping more, difficulty jumping, changes in appetite, weight changes, or drinking more water can sometimes be dismissed as “just getting older.”

But those changes can also be clues that something deserves a closer look.

Senior dogs and cats can develop conditions involving their kidneys, liver, heart, thyroid, joints, and other systems. Regular wellness exams and appropriate screening help us distinguish normal aging from changes that need attention.

You know what I think humans forget sometimes?

You're always looking for the big moment.

The big accomplishment.
The big change.
The big reason to celebrate.

But I don't need any of that.

Give me a sunny spot on the floor.
A walk around the block.
My favorite person coming home.
An extra treat.
Five more minutes of belly rubs.

That's a pretty great day to me. 🐾

So as August comes to an end, don't overlook the little things you've done, the small steps you've taken, or the ordinary moments that made you smile.

Maybe you're farther along than you think.

There’s something special about those quiet moments with our pets at the end of a busy week. ❤️

The lazy afternoon nap.
The warm spot in the sunshine.
The head resting in your lap.
That little sigh when they finally get comfortable.

🐾💗 Meet a Furry Friend Friday: Daisy! 💗🐾

Say hello to sweet Daisy! This beautiful girl came to CAC for medical boarding and quickly became one of our favorite cuddle buddies. 🥰🐶

While she was staying with us, Daisy received plenty of care, attention, and what seemed like an endless supply of snuggles. She may have been here for medical reasons, but she definitely made herself right at home with our team!

Daisy is also a newer diabetic patient and will be coming back to see us for a glucose curve. 🩺🐾

💡 A little diabetes education: Managing diabetes isn't just about giving insulin. Regular monitoring helps the veterinary team understand how a pet's blood glucose is responding to treatment and whether adjustments may be needed. Glucose curves are one of the tools we use to help make sure a diabetic pet's treatment plan is working safely and effectively.

For families managing diabetes at home, consistency is key. Feeding, insulin, monitoring, and follow-up appointments all work together to help keep pets feeling their best.

We're so happy Daisy got to spend some time with us—and we're even happier that she has already mastered the art of getting ALL the love! 💕🐾

🐾 Wellness Wednesday: Prevention Starts With a Conversation

Vaccines are important. Wellness exams are important. Together, they help give your pet the best protection possible.

💉 Vaccines help protect dogs and cats from serious, preventable diseases like rabies, distemper, parvovirus, feline panleukopenia, calicivirus, and more. But your pet's vaccine needs aren't one-size-fits-all. Age, lifestyle, travel, exposure to other animals, and overall health all play a role in determining which vaccines your veterinarian recommends.

🩺 And vaccines are only part of the picture.

During a physical exam, your veterinarian checks your pet from nose to tail—listening to the heart and lungs, examining the eyes and ears, checking the teeth and gums, evaluating weight and body condition, and looking for subtle changes that may signal a health concern.

Some problems can't be prevented with a vaccine, but they can sometimes be detected early during a routine exam.

Your pet may not be able to tell you when something doesn't feel right. That's why regular wellness exams and personalized preventive care matter—even when they seem perfectly healthy.

🌲 WELLNESS WEDNESDAY: “But We Live in Georgia…”

That’s a great question when it comes to Lyme disease!

Lyme disease isn’t one of the biggest tick-borne concerns here in Georgia. But your dog’s ZIP code isn’t the only thing that matters. 🐾

🚙 Heading north for vacation?
🥾 Hiking in the Northeast?
🏕️ Camping in the mountains?
🌲 Exploring wooded trails with your pup?

Your dog could be entering an area where Lyme disease is much more common.

Lyme disease is transmitted by infected black-legged ticks, and dogs who travel to areas where these ticks are prevalent may have a higher risk of exposure. That’s why the Lyme vaccine isn’t necessarily a “one-size-fits-all” vaccine—it’s about your individual dog’s lifestyle and travel plans.

And vaccination is only part of the protection plan. Year-round tick prevention and checking your dog for ticks after outdoor adventures are still important because ticks can transmit other diseases, too.
