Every small experience together. Each moment that I’ve been given. The minutes gifted with him. The heartache. The joy. The laughter he’s brought into my life. Feeling so connected to another living soul…it’s all been more than I could have asked for.
Selfishly, I want it to last forever. But that’s not how this works. I knew that going in, yet somewhere along the way, I got lost in his immense gifts and forgot there was a tradeoff. With each sacred moment, there became less time in our journey together.
For today, this is what I want to remember. And I still have him here with me. It isn’t the end yet. He still has more to share.

How are you and your dogs doing with this heat wave 🥵

We’re in the Atlanta area, it was 98 yesterday and no signs of cooling.

Maybe this will prevent some people from lighting off fireworks all weekend? We can hope!

I’m so lucky to have a pool but I also rent it out on Sniffspot and it’s been in high demand!

We’ve been up with the sun all week, swimming, walking in the shade, sniffing and taking lots of breaks.

Having senior and disabled dogs makes heat stroke even more dangerous!

Don’t forget that foster dog Pickles is waiting for her forever home. DM for more info.

85 degrees at 2pm is too hot for a run with your dog. Full stop.

Having a dog with separation anxiety and losing the ability to do normal everyday activities is also really hard. I can help with that.

But let’s compromise and run earlier or later for now? Or at least carry some water….

The part of dog guardianship people don’t prepare you for (but they shouldn’t have to).

You don’t bring home a dog.
You bring home a relationship.
And relationships?
They require compromise.
Not perfection.

When most people imagine life with their dog, it looks like an easy, seamless fit. Same routines. Same expectations. Same pace.
But the truth is… your dog is not a blank slate.

They come with a history.
A nervous system.
Preferences you didn’t vote on.

I talk about this more in my recent blog. Linked in bio.

Have you experienced this feeling of expecting one thing but getting another when adopting a new dog? I’d love to hear more about it.

Lately, I’ve been sitting with a lot. With my clients. With their dogs.
Holding space for others while also navigating my own reality with Rodger’s health challenges… it’s been lonely in a way that’s hard to put into words.
There’s a heaviness in the world, in every room, more often than not… and if I’m honest, I’m feeling it too.
But this work has never been about keeping score. It’s never been about who has more, who is doing more, who is struggling “worse.”
All I know is the way people show up for others says everything.
Even when it’s hard. Especially when it’s hard.
Rodger reminds me of that every day.
So if you’re here, if you’re trying, if you’re carrying something heavy too…I see you. I’m still here with you.
