A huge thank you to our Purdue RVT extern, Mack, for leading a very educational CPR refresher for our team 🩺🐾♥️

From reviewing the latest CPR guidelines to running hands-on simulations, our staff practiced responding just as we would if a dog or cat were to code in real life. These training sessions help keep our skills sharp so we’re always prepared when seconds matter most. We’re proud to invest in continued learning and grateful to Mack for sharing her knowledge and helping our team be ready for whatever comes through our doors! 🏥

Every year around the Fourth of July, shelters across the country see a significant increase in lost pets. The loud booms, flashes, and unfamiliar smells can cause even well-behaved pets to panic and run.

Here are a few ways to help keep your pets safe:

🏠 Keep pets indoors during fireworks displays.
🔒 Make sure collars and ID tags are secure and up to date.
📱 Verify that your pet’s microchip information is current.
🎶 Use white noise, fans, or calming music to help mask the sounds.
🦴 Provide treats, toys, or a safe hiding spot where your pet feels comfortable.
🚪 Double-check doors, gates, and fences before guests arrive.

Remember: A pet that has never been afraid of fireworks before can still become frightened unexpectedly.

🥵🐾 The Heat Is On! 🐾🥵

Today's combination of high temperatures and humidity can make it difficult for pets to cool themselves effectively. Dogs and cats are much more susceptible to heat-related illness than many people realize.

Before heading outside with your pet, remember:
💧 Bring fresh water wherever you go
🌳 Stick to shaded areas whenever possible
🐕 Keep walks short and avoid strenuous exercise
🐾 Check pavement temperatures before walks—it may be too hot for paws
🏠 Make sure pets have access to cool indoor spaces

Watch for warning signs such as excessive panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting, or difficulty breathing. If you suspect your pet is overheating, seek veterinary care immediately.

The safest place for most pets on days like today is indoors with air conditioning or a fan and plenty of fresh water.
