Happy National Veterinary Technician Week!
We have been spending this week celebrating our Licensed Veterinary Technicians (LVTs), an amazing talented group of professionals who make sure that our patients get the very best care. Similar to nurses in human medicine, veterinary technicians provide much of the hands-on care of patients in the clinic. In any given minute at St. Francis, you could see a veterinary technician monitoring a patient under anesthesia, examining a blood sample under the microscope, talking to a client about how to convince their kitty to take a pill, counting the clinic's pharmacy inventory, carefully placing an IV catheter in a nervous puppy, and walking a client through the process of calling pet poison control after hearing that their pet got into some human medications. The range of skills required of a veterinary technician is incredible, and remember that they need to know how to do all of these things for dozens of different species, from tiny mice to giant Great Danes!
This year is an especially exciting one for veterinary technicians in Minnesota, as our profession makes the transition to state licensure. Licensure establishes a consistent standard for education, knowledge, and professional accountability, helping ensure that veterinary technicians have the training and skills needed to provide high-quality patient care. We are especially proud of our LVTs for achieving this new level of professional recognition and for the incredible expertise, dedication, and compassion they bring to their work every day. We are lucky to have such an outstanding team at St. Francis!
Please take a moment to leave a comment of gratitude below if a veterinary technician has made a difference for you and your pet! Happy National Veterinary Technician Week!
