🐾 Leptospirosis: Protect Your Dog! 🐾

Leptospirosis is a bacterial disease that can affect dogs and people. It’s found worldwide and can spread through contaminated water or soil, as well as contact with infected wildlife urine.

⚠️ In dogs, leptospirosis can become very serious and may lead to kidney and/or liver failure.

💉 The good news: Vaccination is an effective way to help protect dogs from leptospirosis. Because exposure can happen to dogs regardless of lifestyle, the leptospirosis vaccine is considered a core vaccine and is recommended for all dogs.

Leptospirosis Vaccines can start at 12 weeks old. After starting the Vaccine it will need a booster in 3-4 weeks then it is given yealy.

🐱💉 FELINE LEUKEMIA (FeLV): PROTECT YOUR CAT! 💉🐱
Did you know that Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) is one of the most important infectious diseases affecting cats? ❤️🐾
FeLV is a contagious virus that can weaken a cat’s immune system, making it harder for their body to fight infections and other illnesses. It can also cause anemia and certain types of cancer.
HOW IS FELINE LEUKEMIA SPREAD?
FeLV is primarily spread through close contact between cats, including: 🐱 Mutual grooming 🥣 Sharing food and water bowls 💧 Contact with an infected cat’s saliva 🤱 An infected mother cat passing the virus to her kittens 🐾 Bite wounds from infected cats
Cats who go outdoors or live with FeLV-positive cats may be at greater risk.
😿 WHAT ARE THE SIGNS OF FELINE LEUKEMIA?
Some cats may not show symptoms for months or even years. Signs can include:
⚖️ Weight loss
😴 Lethargy and weakness
🍽️ Loss of appetite
🌡️ Persistent fever
🦷 Pale gums and anemia
🤧 Recurrent infections
🩺 Enlarged lymph nodes
Unfortunately, there is no cure for FeLV, but veterinary care and early detection can help infected cats maintain a good quality of life.
💉 THE GOOD NEWS: THERE IS A VACCINE!
🐱 Kittens: FeLV vaccination can begin as early as 12 weeks of age, with a second dose typically given 3–4 weeks later. (Recommended for all kittens in the first year of life)
🐱 Adult cats: Vaccination recommendations depend on your cat’s lifestyle and risk of exposure. Cats with outdoor access or contact with cats of unknown FeLV status may benefit from vaccination.
📅 A booster is generally recommended 1 year after the initial series. After that, booster frequency depends on your cat’s ongoing risk.
❤️ IMPORTANT TO KNOW: FeLV testing is recommended before vaccination because the vaccine does not treat an existing infection. Your veterinarian can help determine the appropriate testing and prevention plan.
🐾 Indoor cats need protection, too! Even cats who live indoors can encounter unexpected exposure, so talk with your veterinarian about your cat’s individual risk.

🐾 Blaze came in for his senior annual exam! 🐾

As our pets get older, regular wellness exams become even more important. Senior visits help us monitor changes in weight, dental health, mobility, and organ function, while routine screening can help catch potential health concerns early. ❤️

By the end of his appointment, Blaze was ready to head home and was found sitting right next to his carrier like, “Come on, Mom, let’s go!” 😂

Blaze turns 15 years old today so we’re wishing this handsome guy a Happy Birthday! 🎂🐱💙

🐱💉 FVRCP: A VITAL VACCINE FOR YOUR CAT! 💉🐱

Did you know the FVRCP vaccine helps protect your cat against three serious and potentially life-threatening diseases? ❤️🐾

Let’s break down what it protects against!

🐾 1. Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis Caused by feline herpesvirus, this highly contagious respiratory disease can cause: 🤧 Sneezing and a runny nose 👀 Eye discharge 💧 Drooling 😿 Lethargy and loss of appetite

Without proper care, severe cases can lead to dehydration and other serious complications.

🐾 2. Calicivirus Another common feline respiratory virus, calicivirus can cause: 🤧 Sneezing and respiratory symptoms 👄 Painful ulcers in the mouth 😿 Loss of appetite and discomfort

In severe cases, it can lead to pneumonia. Kittens, senior cats, and cats with weakened immune systems can be especially vulnerable.

🐾 3. Panleukopenia (Feline Distemper) This highly contagious and potentially deadly virus is especially dangerous for unvaccinated kittens. Symptoms may include: 🌡️ Fever 🤮 Vomiting 🩸 Bloody diarrhea 😿 Severe weakness and dehydration

Panleukopenia can progress rapidly, making immediate veterinary attention essential. Without intervention, a cat can die within 12 hours of contracting the disease.

💉 WHEN SHOULD YOUR CAT BE VACCINATED?

🐱 Kittens: Vaccination typically begins at 6–8 weeks of age, with boosters every 3–4 weeks until at least 16 weeks of age.

🐱 After the kitten series: A booster is generally recommended 1 year later and then every 3 years.

❤️ Prevention is always better than treatment! Keeping your cat up to date on vaccinations is one of the most important ways to help protect their health and give them the best chance at a long, happy life. 🐾

Medical Pet Shirts & Cone Collars
Medical pet shirts and cone collars, also known as Elizabethan collars, are great tools for keeping pets safe while they heal! Whether your pet is recovering from a surgical procedure or needs to be prevented from itching or licking a hot spot, both options have many helpful uses.

One of the most common uses we see is after spays and neuters. A medical shirt can be a great option because it helps prevent pets from reaching their incision while still allowing them to see normally and move their heads freely. Many pets also adapt to a shirt more quickly than they do to a cone.

A cone, however, can be the better choice for pets who like to chew or pull at fabric, or when the area that needs protection is outside the coverage of a medical shirt. This can include situations such as a male cat recovering from a neuter or a pet recovering from a procedure involving a mass or wound on the leg.

Both options can be useful—it really depends on your pet, their procedure, and what area needs protection during recovery!

🐾 Meet Stella! 💕🐶

This sweet Basset Hound had one very important request during her exam: BELLY RUBS! 😂

With those enormous, adorable ears and her belly proudly in the air, Stella spent her entire exam lying on her back and making sure everyone knew exactly where the scratches should go. 🥰

We’re pretty sure Stella has officially mastered the art of making a veterinary visit feel like spa day! 🩺💗

🐾💙 Meet Wellington! 💙🐾

This adorable 8-week-old Mini Australian Shepherd came in for his very first puppy visit!
