What is barnhunt?
Barn Hunt is an official, timed dog sport that tests a dog's scent-detection skills and natural hunting instincts by having them locate safe, live rats hidden inside protective tubes within a maze of straw bales.
How the Sport Works
• The Course: Dogs search through a fenced ring filled with stacked straw or hay bales, empty decoy tubes, and decoy tubes containing used rat bedding.
• The Target: Dogs must find one or more live rats safely enclosed inside aerated PVC tubes that prevent any physical contact or harm to the animals.
