A low monthly premium might look like a great deal, but when you're comparing pet insurance policies, price is only one piece of the puzzle. 🐾
Here are some questions worth asking:
💰 What is the deductible?
💵 How much does the plan reimburse?
📋 What are the coverage limits?
🚫 What is excluded?
⏰ Are there waiting periods?
🦷 Are dental problems covered?
Coverage for dental illness and dental accidents can vary.
🧬 What about hereditary or congenital conditions?
💊 Are prescription medications included?

We’re not asking to scare you.
We’re asking because emergencies don't check your bank account first. 🐾
Pet insurance is one way pet parents can prepare for unexpected veterinary expenses.

Here's the basic idea:
💰 You generally pay the veterinary bill at the time of service.
📄 You then submit a claim to your insurance company.
💵 If the treatment is covered by your policy, the insurer reimburses you according to your plan's deductible, reimbursement percentage, and coverage limits.

But here's the important part:
🎸 Pet insurance isn't one-size-fits-all.
Policies can differ significantly in what they cover, what they exclude, how deductibles work, and whether there are annual or lifetime limits.
Depending on the policy, coverage may include things such as:
🐾 Accidents
🐾 Illnesses
🐾 Surgery
🐾 Diagnostic testing
🐾 Hospitalization
🐾 Prescription medications
Some plans also offer optional wellness coverage for routine care, such as vaccinations or preventive exams.

⚠️ And here's something REALLY important:
Most pet insurance policies do not cover pre-existing conditions.

Service dogs are incredible—but there's a lot of confusion about what makes a dog a service animal and how the public should interact with them. Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), a service animal is generally a dog individually trained to do work or perform tasks for a person with a disability.

That task is the key. A service dog may be trained to perform tasks such as:
🦮 Guiding a person who is blind
🦮 Alerting a person who is deaf
🦮 Retrieving items
🦮 Providing assistance with mobility
🦄 Detecting or responding to certain medical conditions
🦮 Interrupting or redirecting certain behaviors related to a disability

And here's something many people don't realize:
🎸 Service dogs don't have to wear a special vest.
The ADA does not require service dogs to have specific identification, equipment, or certification.
And while some organizations offer certificates or registrations, there is no ADA-required federal service-dog certification or registration.

Now for the part EVERYONE should know:
🚨 Don't pet, call to, feed, or otherwise distract a service dog without permission.
Even a friendly “HELLO!” can interfere with a dog performing an important task.
That adorable dog may look like they're just walking beside their person…
…but they could be watching their handler, responding to cues, navigating obstacles, detecting changes, or preparing to perform a task.
🎸 Working means working.

Also important:
❌ Don't assume a dog isn't a service dog because of its breed or appearance.
❌ Don't ask about someone's disability.
❌ Don't assume a service dog needs to be wearing a vest.
❤️ Instead, give the team space and allow the dog to do their job.

The best compliment you can give a working service dog?
Let them work. 🦮🎸

🎸🔎 THE SNEAKY SIGNS OF PAIN IN PETS 🔎🎸

Pain doesn’t always come with a dramatic limp or a cry for help.

Sometimes it looks like…
“Why doesn’t my dog want to go upstairs anymore?”
“Why is she suddenly grumpy when I touch her?”
“Why does he keep getting up and lying back down?”
“Why doesn’t my old guy want to play like he used to?”
Those little changes can matter. 🐾

Here are some less obvious signs that may indicate pain or discomfort:
🎸 They stop doing things they used to love.
A dog who suddenly stops playing, going for walks, jumping on furniture, or greeting you at the door may be experiencing discomfort.
🎸 They become unusually sensitive to touch.
Flinching, moving away, growling, snapping, or reacting differently when handled can be a warning sign.
🎸 They change how they use their body.
Favoring one side, moving more slowly, changing their gait, or struggling to sit or lie down can indicate discomfort.
🎸 They groom differently.
Repeated licking of one spot may indicate pain. Conversely, a pet in pain may stop grooming normally.
🎸 Their personality changes.
Pain can make even a normally social pet withdrawn, anxious, restless, or irritable.
🎸 They just seem… different.
This one is important. Sometimes there isn't one obvious symptom. There’s simply a noticeable change in behavior or routine.

💡 PRO TIP: Take videos.
If you notice an unusual behavior at home, record it. Pets don't always behave the same way at the veterinary clinic, and a video can give your veterinarian valuable information about what you're seeing in their normal environment.

And remember:
Pain isn't a normal part of getting older.
Senior pets may develop arthritis and other age-related conditions, but that doesn't mean they simply have to “live with it.” Your veterinarian can help determine what's going on and discuss appropriate options.

🐾 Be your pet's voice.
🎸 Learn their normal.
❤️ Pay attention when something changes.
