National Work Like a Dog Day 8/5/26

“Work like a dog” means working to your maximum ability for an extended length of time. We think our team exemplifies this saying. Our technician team is always busy with appointments, surgeries, obtaining vitals and weights, feeding and medicating patients, and prescribing and restocking medications. They are not to be outdone by our reception team. They are always busy at the front desk, whether they are answering the phones, booking appointments, invoicing, or fielding questions. And don’t forget that our doctors are always busy doing…you know, doctor stuff. So, rest assured, we always “work like a dog”.

Dr. LePardo will not be in the office today. She is taking a day off and going camping with her husband and the dogs. This means Sparky gets the day off too. Dr. Jones will be covering for her at CCAH today. Have a great weekend!

Summer BBQ dangers for pets

As the summer heats up, fireworks begin to light up the sky, and the smell of barbecue fills the air, it's easy to get caught up in the excitement of summer celebrations. However, barbecues can bring increased risk for dogs.
While many of us enjoy grilling brats and burgers during holiday gatherings, these same treats can spell disaster for our canine friends. Foods like barbecue scraps, fatty meats, and even certain condiments can trigger pancreatitis in dogs, especially when consumed in large quantities or in combination with other high-fat foods.
Avoid Table Scraps: Resist the temptation to share your holiday feast with your dog, and remind guests to do the same. Keep your pets away from the grill. Stick to your pet's regular diet to avoid upsetting their sensitive stomachs.
Provide a Safe Haven: Create a quiet, comfortable space indoors where your dog can retreat from the noise and excitement of the festivities and exercise caution with fireworks. Be sure they wear their ID or are chipped.
Know the Signs: Familiarize yourself with the symptoms of pancreatitis in dogs, including vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, and abdominal pain. Seek veterinary care immediately.

World Collie Day 7/21/26

The most famous Collie of all time, Lassie, along with Lad, Fly, and Buck, were made famous by their movie and TV roles. These characters displayed loyalty, intelligence, bravery, devotion, and determination which made them fan favorite. These traits are common amongst all Collie breeds, such as the Rough Collie, the Shetland Sheepdog, and the Border Collie. But we can’t forget about the Old English Sheepdog, the Koolie, and the Bearded Collie.
The breed originated in England and Scotland as a herding dog. The name is thought to have originated from the word Coolly, a sheep popular in the UK. Collies are famously fond of children and make wonderful family pets. These swift, athletic dogs thrive on companionship and regular exercise. With gentle training, they learn happily and rapidly. The Collie's loyalty, intelligence, and sterling character are the stuff of legend. Whether they are playing heroic characters or mischievous pets, Collies have become a beloved breed in popular culture.
