As I stand in the kennel, on Father’s Day, trying to get a clog out that could apparently put Hulk Hogan in a headlock, I think of the work ethic my deddy instilled in me. There was no not showing up. You work when you’re supposed to, and you work when everybody else is gone. You work when it’s hot, and you work when it’s cold. You work when you want to, and you BETTER work when you don’t want to. Matter of fact, work 12 hours on the days you don’t want to. You work when you’re sick, because why else.

One of my most favorite memories of him was one day I didn’t want to get out of the bed because I was sick. Nauseated and throwing up. He comes to my door one more time and says, “Son, you can lay in that bed all day long and feel bad and feel sorry for yourself, or you can get up and go to work to make something out of this day. You’re gonna feel bad either way”
That statement still goes though my head when it’s 5am and raining. He did that. He’s been gone for four years now, but he still helps me regularly. He prob looks down and smiles when it happens. I can only hope and try my best to have this kind of impact on our two girls.

My step father Robert Hendricks also deserves a salute. He spent 17 years in the army, and multiple tours in the gulf war. I can prob stop there, but let’s just say two grand daughters have really mellowed him out 😂😂😂 He taught me the value of an education and told me I should go even when I didn’t want to. Because of him I was eligible for the GI bill, and therefore I have two degrees that I probably wouldn’t have obtained without him. Both of these men have shaped me in many ways that they didn’t even know.
