HELP needed now! IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT!

As we were planning on having dinner- an urgent call came in!

🚨 EMERGENCY one of our fosters neighbors has a 12-year-old senior dog who is in active labor. She has reportedly been struggling to deliver her puppies for over 24 hours and is now in desperate need of emergency veterinary care.

While the owner loves her she cannot afford emergency surgery and we need your help to cover it and spay her!

This sweet girl should be spending her golden years surrounded by love and comfort—not fighting for her life and the lives of her puppies. Time is critical, and she needs immediate medical attention to give her the best chance of survival.

Dogs in need of fosters (or adopters or trial adopters for some) - this is the HARDEST time of year for foster shortage, but we're still buried in surrender requests!!!

🐾 Meet Huey the lil’ Schnoodle ~ and prepare to fall in love!

Eight weeks ago, this little guy was found emaciated, circling a dumpster for food. He came to us with a large tumor in his mouth, and his overall condition was so fragile that we took him in as a hospice foster - just hoping to give him a peaceful, loved ending.

But Huey had other plans. 💛

Week by week, he gained weight. His energy came back. His personality emerged. Today, he is a happy, affectionate dog who is absolutely full of life, and we believe he deserves a real shot at a future. He loves walks and wrestling with his foster sister.

🏥 His SURGERY is scheduled for Thurs June 18th. He'll be anesthetized for full x-rays, and depending on results, will be able to go directly into surgery to debulk the tumor, receive a dental cleaning & be neutered. Even if the tumor turns out to be benign, it will eventually affect his ability to eat and his quality of life, so this surgery is critical! We know he's uncomfortable right now, and we want to change that.

This boy needs two things from our SHDR community:
💰 Financial support for his surgery. Every dollar helps. Please include HUEY in the subject line/comment of your digital donation so we can apply it directly to his care. (In the unlikely event surgery cannot proceed after x-rays, all donations to SHDR will go toward other animals in need - we'll always be transparent with you.)
🏠 A foster home. Huey is a small, sweet guy who does best in a cat-free home due to a high prey drive. His fosters would 1000% keep him if it wasn't for the cat situation. If you can open your door to him while he heals and we find his forever family, we would love to hear from you. (right now he's been wearing a belly band until he's neutered, because of trying to mark occasionally; this takes care of that issue with no fuss)

He went from circling a dumpster to stealing hearts. Now let's get this boy the second chance he's already fighting so hard for. 🐶❤️

😝 KINGSTON could not be HAPPIER for his twinsie brother Stormy (formerly Hugo) who finally found his home (complete with comfy couch spot and lots and lots of beloved stuffies!) through our new Forever Foster program - but he wants everyone to know he's ready for HIS turn, too!

❤️ Kingston, as a handsome guy who LOVES people but also wants to be the only dog in the home (but does great on walks, etc) has just as much unconditional love to give as his brother, and is ready to audition for the part of your new BEST FRIEND! 😝

It’s been so stressful with community dogs -We were prepared to help this family last Monday but they waited til Saturday morning when it was dire indeed. Our wonderful vet let us come in and even before we knew how dire it was, PMRT said they could intake

Please support those efforts since we were over extended from other efforts.

SOS! Planned Foster had a last minute family emergency for these two adorable puppies (the other 4 have coverage), a male and female, and we need a place for them to land temporarily as we get them listed and help us get pictures and feedback on them. About 3 months old and vetted to age. (They’ll all be available for adoption after we get them settled in their fosters and checked out)

The many faces of SUMMER... this dog cracks us up!

FOSTER NEEDED: Sweet Summer was found as a stray who was never claimed, but the folks who have been caring for her can no longer keep her and need to surrender - they have 5 other dogs, and she's done fine with them all, but it's just too many for them to manage! 🐕🐕🐕🐕🐕

She's vet-estimated a year old and only 33 lbs! 🥰 Gorgeous cattle dog mix with ice blue eyes and a super-sweet disposition. Loves everyone, good with dogs, although will appropriately correct a dog if they're TOO in her face and hyper - but she manages fine.

🎈 LOTS of energy and playfulness - she needs room to run and/or lots of walks. No little kids only because of that energy. She has not been cat-tested.

👉 Help us help Summer find her home - we don't imagine it will take long with her looks and her temperament! She'll make a great family dog or would love to be someone's companion and exercise buddy.

Spotlight on SAMBO: one of our Forever Foster-eligible volunteer favs! 🖤

One look into those big ol' eyes and you'll understand why this boy has become an absolute favorite of every volunteer and walker who has ever spent time with him.
Sambo is an 8-year-old Vizsla mix who has been with SHDR for over two years! He is calm, affectionate, well-mannered, and completely devoted to his people. The volunteers who walk regularly say the same things: he listens, he comes when called, he sits and waits, and he walks beautifully on leash. He's earned the nickname "the hunter" for his love of sniffing everything - but he's no jumper, and he's not chasing anything. He just wants to take in the world at your side.

What really sets "Sammy" apart is how tuned in he is to the person he's with. He stays close. He keeps looking back to check on you. He'll sit right up against you on the porch steps and lean in like you're the best thing that's happened to him all day, and you'll believe it!

He also gives hugs. Just wanted to mention that.

At 66 pounds, he's a solid, handsome boy who carries himself with a quiet dignity that only a dog with a good soul can pull off. He's clearly had some training in his past - he just needs someone to give him the home he's been waiting for.
Sambo does best as the only dog in the home (and only "kid", too!), where he can be someone's whole world - and give them his in return.

Through our FOREVER FOSTER Program, all of Sambo's veterinary care, flea, tick, and heartworm prevention, transportation help, and supports like boarding are covered by SHDR. You just bring the love. 🐾
