Here are our numbers for May!!

First and foremost, we are SO thankful for all of YOU - our followers, donators, volunteers, adoption partners, rescue partners, veterinary professionals, adopters, fosters - ANY of you that have contributed in any way to help us be successful in our mission here!! Saving the lives of so many dogs & cats in our community takes a village! We are SO grateful for the village that stands behind us!! ♥️

How can you continue to help?!

🐾 Make it a priority to SPAY & NEUTER your pets!!! We cannot reiterate this enough. Yes, even the stray cat who showed up months ago that you are feeding. If you need low cost options, let us know! We are happy to point you in the right direction, depending on where you live!

🐾 ADOPT or if you can’t, then please continue sharing our posts. We always need adoptions!! The past three years, we have remained at or above capacity every single month. 💔 A trend that isn’t just hitting here locally, it is a heartbreaking crisis across the country.

🐶 Dog adoptions are slowly picking up, but we are seeing a trend of dogs sitting in kennels longer than usual. The average length of stay for a dog in our care (from intake, to vetting, to placement) is at 23 days.

🐱 Cat and kitten adoptions are going well as we have them available! The average length of stay for a cat in our care (from intake, to vetting, to placement) is 22 days.

🐾 VOLUNTEER! One of our biggest needs are experienced dog walkers. Our dogs would greatly benefit from being walked twice a day (weather permitting)!! Message or call us if you want to sign up!

🐾 FOSTER! One of our biggest needs, is having temporary foster homes for kittens under 2lbs. Kitten “season” is year round! Contact us for more info! We currently have 68 kittens in our care!

🐾 Make a COMMITMENT to your pet that you will do your best to keep that animal for its lifetime. But also please know that we are here for our county residents and your pet in extreme hardship.♥️🐾

🐾 DONATE! Expenses are at an all time high. Vet bills, daily supplies, medications, vaccinations and food, etc. Donation tabs are listed at the end of this post, if you want to help us out in that way! Want to donate to help us with daily needs?!

You can donate to us by shopping locally & dropping items off to us in person, any time staff is here!!

UPDATE:: She was taken to the vet for an exam and radiographs on Friday, revealing a severely fractured pelvis. With our vets recommendation, due to the extent of her injuries, humane euthanasia was opted to end her pain and suffering. Our hearts are heavy that her outcome was not what she deserved. Run free sweet girl, you were loved the short time you were in our care. 💔

Do you have a passion for helping animals and strengthening our community?

FCAC is currently seeking dedicated individuals to fill an open position on our Board of Directors.

❗️PLEASE NOTE: This is a volunteer leadership position and is not employment with the shelter!

We are looking for community minded leaders who want to make a meaningful impact through advocacy, service, and strategic support for our local animal shelter.

Board members are expected to:
🐾 Attend board meetings every other month
🐾 Support fundraising and community outreach efforts
🐾 Assist with strategic planning and organizational growth
🐾 Serve as ambassadors for the Fulton County Animal Center
🐾 Contribute their unique skills, experience, and perspective

Whether your background is in business, finance, fundraising, law, nonprofit work, community service, animal welfare, or another field, we encourage you to apply!

🙏 PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE 🙏 DON’T KitNap!! We are begging you to assess the situation BEFORE you touch them or you intervene!!

🐾 Please Read Below Throughly!!

Far too many kittens die every year, when a Good Samaritan takes presumed orphaned kittens away from their moms.

PLEASE don’t Kit-Nap!!

Humans simply cannot replicate a mother cat’s care. Mom is their BEST chance of survival. If you find kittens, please follow this flow chart to determine the next steps and ensure that they SURVIVE!

🔸We have a very limited amount of kitten fosters who can bottle feed kittens and they are all currently FULL! PLEASE leave kittens be with their moms until at least 5/6 weeks of age or eating on their own. At this age you can then get the momma spayed and kittens can be possibly be placed in to a foster home through us. Or we will help supply you with the necessary items to care for them until we are able to intake them. The shelter is NO place for tiny unvaccinated kittens. If you are a Fulton County resident, please reach out to us to get on our waitlist to intake. We ask that you call to make arrangements, we cannot accept walk-in kitten surrenders/strays. We have to have a plan in place for somewhere for them to go, if they are not ready to be spayed/neutered. 🔸

💙 Blue has the blues…

Shelter life can be tough, so the other day we traded kennel walls for a car ride, a pup cup, a cheeseburger, and a little bit of freedom. 🚗🍔🥤

It’s amazing how quickly this boy’s personality shines. The smiles, the tail wags, the excitement… this is the Blue we wish everyone could see.

Unfortunately, the car ride ends, the treats disappear, and Blue has to go back to his kennel.

We’re hoping someone out there sees what we see and gives him the forever home he deserves. ❤️

☀️🚨 HEAT ADVISORY FOR FULTON COUNTY 🚨☀️

With our area under a Heat Advisory today and summer temperatures officially making their presence known, Apollo is making the most of the hot weather with a pool day! 💦😎

Heat index values are expected to reach 100°F, and hot weather can become dangerous much faster than many people realize.

🐾 A FEW REMINDERS FOR DOG OWNERS:

🌡️ 90°F+: High risk for overheating and heat stroke. Keep outdoor time brief and closely monitor your dog.

💧 Always provide fresh water and shade.

🌅 Save walks and outdoor playtime for early morning or late evening.

🔥 If the pavement is too hot for the back of your hand for 7 seconds, it’s too hot for your dog’s paws.

🚗 NEVER leave a pet in a parked vehicle, even for a few minutes.

🐶 Watch for signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke:
• Excessive panting
• Heavy drooling
• Bright red gums
• Weakness or stumbling
• Vomiting or diarrhea
• Collapse

🚨 If your dog shows any of these signs:

✅ Move them to a cool, shaded, or air-conditioned area immediately.
✅ Offer small amounts of cool (not ice-cold) water if they’re conscious and able to drink normally.
✅ Wet them with cool water, especially the belly, groin, paws, and armpits.
✅ Contact a veterinarian immediately.

❌ Do not force water.
❌ Do not allow them to gulp large amounts all at once.
❌ Do not use ice baths or ice-cold water. Rapid cooling can constrict blood vessels, making cooling less effective and potentially contributing to shock.

Some dogs are especially vulnerable to the heat, including puppies, seniors, overweight pets, brachycephalic breeds (Bulldogs, Pugs, Frenchies, etc.), and dogs with medical conditions.

🐱 Don’t forget outdoor cats, too!
• Put out fresh water in shaded areas and refill often.
• Provide access to shade whenever possible.
• Check on cat feeding stations more frequently during extreme heat.
• If you’re caring for feral or outdoor cats, placing multiple water bowls around your property can make a big difference.

💦 Kiddie pools, sprinklers, frozen treats, air conditioning, shade, and limiting activity during the hottest part of the day can all help keep your pets safe and comfortable this summer.
