You must avoid hypoglycemia with your puppy all all costs . This is the main reason why I say keep food always available. No treats - just the good proper nutrition. Another reason for delays in going home is simply the puppy is still too small . Weight matters more than age . It’s not time to ration puppy food on a growing baby . The first signs are a puppy showing no interest in anything. They have a hard time walking , they stumble and look dazed and walk drunk . The gums will look grey, the mouth with clench , the body will go stiff , possible seizures , and at that point you will be on the way to the emergency vet . It’s very expensive to treat.
What is hypoglycemia in dogs? Hypoglycemia is a condition that can develop in dogs when their blood sugar levels fall too low. The body needs glucose for energy, and when levels drop too low, the body's cells may not have enough energy to function properly. The normal blood sugar for dogs is 3.5-7mmol/L.

One medium / larger plastic or metal crate
Metal is easier to clean , however some pups get their mouth stuck on the wire . Metal you can adjust the size .
Plastic gives more privacy , however harder to clean . Plastic is harder to adjust the size .
Whatever crate you choose , be sure you like how to open and close it . I suggest to totally cover the crate. - if the puppy can’t see you walk away , it may not cry as much
