Stayed up late and got this one groomed out last night. I love these head turns on a gobbling pose. Gives them some serious attitude! This is the first one I have mounted out of class and on my own. I’ve got a few things I’ll do different on the next one but I’m really pleased with how this one turned out. This is the second bird in my lifetime that I’ve shot that’s had “crinkled” breast feathers. On to a Rio next!

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not even close to being ready to be in the woods yet this year with the season opener knocking on the door tomorrow. But I am ready here. The freezers are empty and the scalpel blades are ready.

Supply catalogs came last week and I can tell you that everything we use went up. I’m going up $25 from last season and will still be taking a few dollars a deer loss from last year. Still below national average by a lot. Good luck out there this year and I’ll be in here plugging away at turkeys until the time gets right!

Decided to work out the quirks and mount my turkey first before anyone else’s. It’s been since February since I’ve even messed with a skin. This Indiana bird is going to mount up just fine as a half strut gobbling tom. Got a couple things to do different on the next one but we’re gonna be just fine.
