Thought we were done with customer deer but we had a walk in looking to get one remounted. I was able to find a cape that had some similar colors from his picture and we got it put together. Mounted up on Ben Mears new aggressive sweep that he released this year. Really like the looks of this form.

First set of turkey legs are ready for paint. Still waiting on heads to come back. Hopefully they will be here soon.

Really looking forward to mounting this Kansas buck. Gene Smith “Renegade” on a Gene Smith change out head with a Jena Everage cast nose. This will be a September project.

Turkey feet come out of the freezer tomorrow. It’s time to get rolling on some birds!🦃

Looks like we our going to step out of our comfort zone a bit. We got our first Canadian black bear. Really looking forward to this and I was kicking around this idea of getting into them anyway. Sometimes you just jump in feet first!

And the last customer deer for the ‘25 season is finished and ready to go home! I mounted 30 deer this season and worked at an extremely comfortable pace to make sure each one got my time. I’ll be taking deer again this year and maybe a handful more than last year. I have a number in my head and I won’t be taking any past that. There are a couple surrounding area taxidermists that are retiring this year as soon as they get their work done and not taking any work this fall. I would imagine we will be filling up fast around here.

I plan on starting turkey’s next week or the week after. I’m excited to get going on those! Good luck this coming season!

Another rainy day, so we decided to work in the shop. Finished this up and he’s headed home soon. Not sure if he’ll make it all the way to Alaska where this lucky hunter lives or stay at the family home. If it does that would put deer in Florida, Vermont, Kansas and Alaska this year and about four different counties in Illinois. That’s pretty neat!

Sending this one home. By far the prettiest deer to come through the shop and he made it all the way to January of hunting season without a scratch! Last two are drying and getting ready for finish work.

And that’s a wrap!!! All ‘25 season deer are mounted! Last 3 are dying now and will be done soon. There are only two deer hanging on the rack and they both have the name “Weaver” on the tag. I’ll get to Clayton’s Kansas deer soon and I’ll get to mine well…whenever. Time to start setting turkey feet!🦃

How about this for a January deer? I have to say that this might be the prettiest deer to come in this year. He has it all. Big frame 8 pt rack, good color, cape in great shape, long eye lashes top and bottom and a thin eye lid line. A taxidermist dream!
