🐶 Your Dog’s Digestive System: The Stomach
More than just a place to hold dinner, your dog’s stomach is a holding tank, blender, and chemical processing plant—all in one! 🥣

In this next stop in our digestive system series with Dr. Christine Woodford, we’re looking at how the stomach gets each meal ready for the journey ahead.

Its important jobs include:
🥩 Storing food after a meal
🔄 Churning food into a soupy mixture called chyme
💪 Beginning protein digestion
🦠 Helping destroy many harmful bacteria before they reach the intestines

Each of these jobs helps prepare food for the next stage of digestion and nutrient absorption. A lot happens between that last bite and the next potty break! 🐾

🐶 The Esophagus: Your Dog’s Digestive Highway!
Our digestive health journey with Dr. Christine Woodford continues! After your dog takes a bite, the esophagus gets to work—moving food and water from the mouth to the stomach. 🐾

Think of it as a built-in conveyor belt! Gentle, wave-like muscle contractions, called peristalsis, keep each bite moving in the right direction—even when your pup is lying down or eating with their head lowered.

While the esophagus doesn’t digest food or absorb nutrients, it has an important job: delivering each bite to the next stop on the digestive journey!
Every part has a purpose, and a healthy digestive system starts long before food reaches the stomach. 💚

🦷 Myth vs. Fact: Digestion Starts in the Stomach
❌ MYTH: Digestion begins once food reaches your dog’s stomach.

✅ FACT: Digestion starts with the very first bite!
Your dog’s teeth, tongue, and saliva begin preparing food before it ever reaches the stomach. Chewing breaks food into smaller pieces, while saliva helps lubricate food for swallowing and supports a healthy oral environment.

A healthy mouth is more than a dental-health concern—it is an important first step in supporting the entire digestive tract. 🐾

As we continue our digestive health series, remember: what you feed your pet—and how that food supports every stage of digestion—matters.

Your dog’s gut does so much more than digest food—it plays a major role in their overall health and immune function. 🐾🦠

Did you know that nearly 70–80% of your dog’s immune system is connected to the digestive tract? A healthy, balanced gut microbiome helps support normal digestion, keep harmful bacteria in check, reduce inflammation, and strengthen your dog’s natural defenses.

That means what you put in your pet’s bowl truly matters. Thoughtful nutrition and better feeding choices can help support a healthier gut—and a healthier pet—from the inside out. 💚

Follow along as we continue our Digestive Tract Series and share more about the connection between nutrition, digestion, and whole-body wellness.

You may remember Presten and Bentley, the sweet Maltichon brothers we featured earlier this year! 🐶🐶 Since working with Dr. Christine, they’ve already seen great progress with healthy weight loss, mobility support, and improved overall wellness.

Now, their family has an exciting update: no seasonal allergy flare-ups this spring and summer! 🌿✨

Last year, the boys struggled with paw licking, scratching, and allergy discomfort—even after trying several common allergy medications. After starting Dr. Christine’s homemade food recipe in September 2025, their family noticed improvements within just a few weeks.

Fast-forward to allergy season this year: May, June, and July came and went with no itching, no licking, and no miserable pups! 🙌 While their pet parent’s own allergies were in full swing, Presten and Bentley were comfortable, happy, and thriving.

Their family believes the fresh, home-cooked meals and individualized support from Dr. Christine have helped the boys become healthier in so many ways—and the best part? They absolutely LOVE mealtime! 🍗🥕🐾

Does your pet need a more personalized path to feeling their best? Dr. Christine is here to help! 💚 Visit VIPSvet.net to book a discovery call today and learn how VIPSvet can help your pet thrive.
