🪶 FEATHERED FRIDAY! 🪶
Meet the Black-naped Fruit Dove! 💚💜 This beautiful bird may be small, but it certainly knows how to stand out! With its soft green feathers, pinkish-purple breast, and distinctive black marking on the back of its neck, this dove is a colorful member of the pigeon and dove family.
🍎 Did you know? As their name suggests, Black-naped Fruit Doves love fruit! They primarily eat fruits and berries, using their bills to help them pick food from trees.
🌳 These birds are found throughout parts of Southeast Asia, where they spend much of their time in forests and other wooded habitats.
🪶 Look closely! The male and female Black-naped Fruit Doves can look quite different. Males tend to have much more vibrant coloring, while females are generally more muted green. (The one pictured here is Prince Edward II, a male.)
🌱 By eating fruit and later passing the seeds through their digestive system, fruit doves can help disperse seeds and support the growth of new plants in their habitats!
