Picture on right represents Orchid watering day at the kitchen sink. It’s about a 4-6 hour job. So, i have been working on that, done 4 loads of laundry, broken down all the Amazon and chewy boxes and decided I needed a 15 minute break. Hence the picture in the left. This is the best break when your two cavis immediately “assume their positions!” Cavis are amazing dogs in so many ways!🐶❤️🐶❤️🐶❤️

I want to share an update with you. I have been having some significant vision issues since suffering a concussion in the car accident. I have to limit my screen time to a total of an hour a day broken into 10 minute segments max. This is why my posts have been very minimal since the accident in March. Praise God the issue is not a problem when I am teaching!!!! Thank you for your patience and grace until they are able to get this fixed. Have an amazing day and love on your pups for me!

Please welcome Otis and his mom Kim to our Hand and Paw DFW family. Otis is a Doodle pup who accompanies his mom to her job as a Therapy Coordinator at a rehab facility. Their goal is to build Otis’s obedience skills and then go through my Therapy Dog Workshop to prepare to earn their Therapy Dog certification. Way to go you two!

In my last post of my clients and their dogs training I made a statement that I want to expound on. The statement t was, “Training not only builds the handler and dog’s skills but it builds a stronger connection.” The picture is of Buddy, my 9 year old Cavalier. Buddy earned his Therapy Dog Certification at one year old and not only have he and I been serving together in that compactly for 8 years now but we also
earned our certification as a Canine Emergency Response Team. We deployed in different parts of the country and served for a year in that capacity. I share that because I have trained Buddy to check in with me every 15 seconds when on leash. When he does, I can look at him and based on my look and the situation, he knows exactly what I want. You may never have any desire to work with your dog at that level but what I want you to know is Basic Obedience, when taught properly, can include that level of connection, joy and skills for you and your dog. I love what I do. The picture on the left was with Coco the Rottweiler puppy. We did an exposure lesson by doing a field trip to Barnes and Noble. Lots of activity, people and experiences. She did really well but the escalator with people on it really concerned her. Coco wanted to rescue them from the escalator. She did fabulously with acclimating her to an elevator. Way to go Cherise. Great job 👏🏻 as the owner/handler.
The second picture is all about canine peer presure.
During our lesson we introduced “paws up.” Atlas, the heeler was reluctant so Astro, the Yorkie jumped into action immediately and gave a perfect “paws up.” Canine peer presure is definitely a factor (sometimes good, sometimes not so much) with more than one dog. Haha.
Training with your dog not only builds the handler and dogs skills, it builds a stronger connection.

I am busting at the seams with excitement over the AMAZING job this young man is doing with his Chocolate Lab Puppy. In the video, he asks for sit, then down then wait. Just watch this demonstration of complete obedience. Pay special attention when you see who walks past on the sidewalk! Holy Cow!!!!! Patience, persistent progression and positive reward for the dog builds a loving and loyal relationship between the two. Could not be more proud for this young man and Beau.💓

This is a great example of the benefit of “banking lessons.” This is one of my clients who trained with me. We got her dog where she wanted him so we banked the remaining lesson(s) for future touchups. Not only does it keep your dog sharp but it also allows you to save money since package lessons are less cost than individual lessons. About 50% of my clients make sure to have “lessons in the bank!”
