Big Lick Vet will be at Barktober Fest again this year and we would love to see you there (details below)!

Each year, attendees and vendors at the event make pet food donations that go to the animals at RCACP, our local open-intake facility. If you are unable to attend or want to participate by donating, we are accepting donations all September long! Simply bring them to the clinc and we will deliver and donate the food at Barktober Fest. Hope to see you there!

At 2:00 AM on September 1st, our clients experienced a devastating house fire. Thankfully, everyone made it out of the house, but their son sustained injuries and was transferred to a burn unit. We were able to get their beloved dog Remi in for an appointment with Dr. McLaughlin and are happy to report that she is doing well, but there is so much ahead of this family as they rebuild their life. We wanted to share the Go Fund Me for this family (and hope you will share as well!) in hopes that our community can come together to help them as they go through an unimaginable time in their life. We're sending so much love and support their way!

A friendly reminder that it's the first of September and time for many of you to give flea, tick, and heartworm prevention to your pets!🐾 It's a common misconception that your pets don't need prevention once it starts to cool off, but fleas and ticks do not die off in fall and winter. 🌈 Today on National Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day, we remember the animals who left paw prints on our hearts and changed our lives forever.

Anyone who has loved and lost a pet knows that they never really leave us. They live on in the routines we still think about, the memories that make us smile, the places that suddenly feel a little emptier, and in all the ways loving them changed us.

Join us in wishing current Vet Assistant/Vet Tech Student and future Licensed Vet Tech Jacob a very Happy Birthday today!! 🥳

Jacob first began shadowing our veterinarians in early high school and we knew we wanted to hire him as soon as he turned 16, so we did and now Jacob has been on the Big Lick team for over 10 years now! Two years ago, he took the next step in his career when he was accepted into Blue Ridge Community College's Veterinary Technology program to become an LVT. He graduates in the spring of 2027! Since he first started, Jacob has been passionate about veterinary medicine and elevating his skills, including completing three additional animal handling certificates last year and three more this year - all while both going to school, petsitting, and working full-time. He has an impressive set of skills and knowledge base that are far beyond his years. And as we’re sure many of you know from your experiences with Jacob, he always shows our clients and patients kindness, compassion, and understanding. We couldn’t be more excited to see what the future holds for Jacob and we have no doubt he’ll be an exceptional LVT. 🩺

Happy Birthday Jacob. Thanks for all you do - you are such an asset to our team. We hope you have the best day ever! 🎉
