🤔 Did You Know? ❓
Veterinary care for Iditarod sled dogs begins weeks before the race even starts.

Within 14 days of the race start, every dog receives a complete physical examination by a licensed veterinarian. Within 30 days, dogs also undergo ECG heart screening, blood testing and microchip verification as part of the Iditarod’s extensive pre-race veterinary screening program.

And once the race begins, the care continues all the way to Nome.

More than 40 licensed veterinarians volunteer along the Iditarod Trail, conducting well over 10,000 veterinary examinations throughout the race. At checkpoints, veterinarians routinely evaluate the dogs, monitor their health and provide treatment when needed.

The goal isn't simply to get dogs to Nome—it's to make sure every dog is healthy, happy and well cared for along the way. That commitment begins long before the starting line and continues every mile of the journey to Nome and beyond the finish line. 🐾

🐾 Behind every team on the trail is a veterinary team watching out for them, and we are so very grateful for that team. 🩵

🐑🐐 THANK YOU for an AMAZING 6th Annual Sheep & Goat Festival! 🐐🐑

What a wonderful day filled with animals, education, demonstrations, music, fellowship, and fun! We are incredibly grateful to everyone who attended, volunteered, participated, shared our posts, invited friends and family, and helped spread the word about this year’s festival.

A very special thank you to all of our volunteers, vendors, demonstrators, musicians, educators, exhibitors, sponsors, and community partners who gave their time and talents to help make this event possible. So much work happens behind the scenes, and we truly appreciate every person who helped bring the festival together.
It was wonderful seeing families and visitors learning about sheep and goats, meeting different breeds, watching demonstrations, supporting local vendors, enjoying the activities, and making memories together. 💕🐑🐐

Seeing our community come together and watching people of all ages experience agriculture firsthand is exactly what makes this festival so special.

Thank you for supporting the New River Valley Sheep and Goat Association and helping make the 6th Annual Sheep & Goat Festival such a memorable experience!
We hope you had as much fun as we did, and we cannot wait to see everyone again next year on Saturday, September 25, 2027 from 9am - 4pm! 🎉

🐑🐐 Thank you for making this year’s festival one to remember! 🐐🐑

Here's a little dog history for the countries 250th anniversary.

Drunkard, Madame Moose, Sweet Lips, Taster, Tippler, Venus, and Vulcan.

Would you believe these were some of the names of George Washington’s dogs? It’s true! When it came to pooches, George Washington had a sense of humor – and a tender side, too. He kept many breeds including French hounds, Greyhounds, Dalmatians, Newfoundlands, Briards, and various types of spaniels, terriers, and toys.

Washington is even credited by the American Kennel Club with being one of the people who helped develop the breed known as the American Foxhound. The breed resulted from a mixture of different hounds imported from England and France, with local American stock.

Even today, dogs are welcome to visit Mount Vernon! Check out the guidelines for bringing your pup here: https://bit.ly/4ibgQe1

Good morning valued clients!
I would like to start the day by addressing a mass message that went out yesterday to all of our clients.

The message was as follows:

Hello (client),
We are seeing an increase in missed appointments. Please if you need to reschedule or cancel call to inform us as soon as possible. Your timely response helps us efficiently manage our schedule. Providing us with adequate notice of opening appointment times allows us to accommodate urgent or sick pets in your place. We have a missed appointment fee that will be charged for all missed appointments if you do not let us know ahead of time that you will not make it or that your appointment needs to be changed.

Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to seeing you and your pets soon.

Thanks,
Read Mountain animal hospital

This was a message not targeting specific people just letting all of our clients know the policy for missed appointments as we have seen an increase of this in the past 6 months.

We are hoping that by giving this information we can better serve your needs and allow those with sick pets the availablity to get into the clinic in a timely manner should you be unable to make your scheduled time.

We apologize if anyone thought this was directed at them when they have no missed appointments.

Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend from the family here at Read Mountain.
