🌿 Spotlight Species: The Green Iguana 🌿
If you’ve ever wanted a pet that looks like it walked straight out of the Jurassic era, the green iguana definitely fits the vibe. These striking lizards are known for their bold personalities, impressive size (up to 5–6 feet from nose to tail), and that iconic row of spines running down their back.

Despite the name, green iguanas come in a range of colors—bright emerald, deep forest green, even hints of blue or orange depending on age, mood, and region. They’re herbivores with big appetites, social body‑language communicators, and surprisingly intelligent for reptiles.

🌡️ Fun Fact: Iguanas… Fall Out of Trees
Yes, really. In places like Florida, where green iguanas have established wild populations, cold snaps can lead to a bizarre natural phenomenon. When temperatures drop into the low 40s, iguanas become so cold‑stunned that their muscles temporarily stop working. The result? They literally freeze in place—and sometimes tumble right out of trees.
The good news: most of them thaw out and recover once the sun warms them back up.

🌱 Thinking About Adding One to Your Reptile Family?
Green iguanas are incredible animals, but they’re also a long‑term, high‑commitment species. They need large enclosures, specialized lighting, a varied plant‑based diet, and plenty of space to climb and explore. With the right setup and care, they can become impressive, interactive companions.

If you’re curious about whether a green iguana is right for you—or you just want to learn more about these leafy-loving tree dragons—Exotics & Aquatics is always happy to help.
