Mud Lick Kennels Mud Lick Kennels has been offering pet boarding and professional dog grooming services to the Roanoke, VA community since 1984.

We also provide day care & puppy socialization. We have a private boarding area for cats. Owner Gene Hallenbeck started working on a farm at an early age and has a lifetime of experience with animals of all kinds. He particularly enjoys working with dogs and is an accomplished and well respected professional groomer. His rapport with dogs is amazing and his day-care program also serves to properly socialize and balance all types and sizes of dogs and puppies. Cats have an area of their own where they can snooze or play their days away. The boarding kennel has large inside/outside runs with exercise areas and the entire facility is heated and air conditioned for your pets' comfort. Nothing puts a smile on your face more than watching the dogs being dropped off for day-care rush to the front door in the mornings, tails wagging and bouncing with joy. Gene is very generous with his time and talents and has been affiliated with the Roanoke Valley SPCA and other rescue organizations for years. He often helps with fostering dogs and cats, giving them that extra tender loving care they need and providing playtime for socialization.

Our foster program here at the RVSPCA is quite extensive. Roanoke Valley SPCA has made a commitment to saving as many as possible and with the help of volunteers who help us by fostering animals needing extra care we can hold true to our commitment. Pregnant dogs and cats deserve a chance to give birth to their babies in warmth and comfort. Infant and orphaned puppies and kittens deserve a chance to grow and thrive so that they may become valued members of a family.

Recently there were two mama dogs at the RCACP whose hold time was up and they faced euthanasia. The RVSPCA foster coordinator found out about their plight and made quick arrangements to save the lives to these helpless mothers and their puppies. Thankfully Gene Hallenbeck, a long time RVSPCA foster parent who has foster OVER 700 animals since he started supporting our shelter, stepped forward and offered to give BOTH mother dogs and their puppies a safe haven until they are all ready for adoption! One of the Mama dogs is a pit mix who already has delivered her 9 puppies and the other mama dog going to stay with Gene is a hound mix who is pregnant and ready to give birth to her puppies any day now!

Thankfully this story has a happy ending and our foster program and Gene Hallenbeck have made sure all these animals have hope in their future for furever homes and families of their own who will keep them safe and make sure they will never have to face such peril ever again!!!!
