Tack cleaning tips:
- Daily Debris Removal: Remove debris and dirt from your bit with water daily. This is a non-negotiable step.
- Leather Cleaning: Wipe off leather with a damp, not wet, cloth or sponge. We recommend using a clean white rag or washcloth to ensure you remove all dirt and sweat. Ideally, this should be done daily to prevent sweat and dirt from shortening the life of your leather.
- Conditioning: Condition your leather as needed. A weekly or bi-weekly conditioning is usually sufficient. However, if the leather has been exposed to harsh elements, it may require more frequent conditioning. Use your senses to feel and look at the leather and make good judgment.
- Deep Cleaning: Deep clean your tack a few times a year. Disassemble it and clean everything thoroughly. There are nooks and crannies that are difficult to reach during daily basic cleaning.
- Avoid Dry Leather: Donโt neglect your leather. If it becomes too dry, it will become brittle. Regardless of how much you condition it at this point, it will lose some of its strength, which cannot be regained.
- Safety Check: Regularly check your tack for safety. Ensure all stitching is in good shape and that nothing is too worn, thin, or brittle.
- Embellished Brow Bands: If you have a beautiful embellished brow band, like one from , be careful with it! Embellishments can be gently wiped off, but avoid using conditioner on them.
