Its officially Vet Tech Week!! To say they are the core of our hospital is an understatement. Without them, we could not function. They work tirelessly for your pets and our hospital. Many nights they go home exhausted, covered in a**l glands and other bodily fluids 🙄 We love them, we appreciate them and would not be where we are without them. Yes Jen, we kept you in the group picture because we miss you terribly 😘 Please give a shout out to our team if you see them this week!

🎃🐾 FALL PET SAFETY: KEEP YOUR FURRY FRIENDS SAFE THIS HALLOWEEN! 🐾🍂

Fall is full of pumpkins, cozy decorations, costumes, and Halloween treats! 👻🕸️ While we enjoy the spooky season, it's important to remember that some of our favorite fall traditions can pose dangers to our pets. ❤️🐶🐱

🍬 🎃 HALLOWEEN CANDY & TREATS
🚫 Chocolate is toxic to both dogs and cats, especially dark chocolate and baking chocolate.
🚫 Xylitol (birch sugar), found in some sugar-free candies and gum, is extremely dangerous to dogs.
🚫 Raisins and grapes can cause serious kidney damage in dogs.
🚫 Candy wrappers can cause choking or intestinal blockages if swallowed.
🚫 Keep candy bowls, treat bags, and trick-or-treat buckets well out of paw's reach!

🕯️ 🍂 FALL DECORATIONS & CANDLES
🎃 Keep pumpkins and gourds out of reach if your pet likes to chew. Moldy pumpkins can make pets sick, and large pieces may cause digestive problems.
🕯️ Use flameless candles when possible. Wagging tails and curious paws can knock over real candles.
🌿 Be careful with potpourri, essential oils, and decorative plants, as some can be toxic to pets.
🧵 Keep fake spiderwebs, ribbons, tinsel, and small decorations away from curious mouths. Swallowing them can cause dangerous intestinal blockages.
🔌 Secure electrical cords and decorative lights to prevent chewing and electric shock.

🐕 👻 COSTUMES, DOORBELLS & TRICK-OR-TREATERS
🐾 Choose costumes that fit comfortably and don't restrict breathing, vision, movement, or hearing.
🐾 Never leave pets unattended in costumes, especially if they have loose pieces they could chew or swallow.
🐾 Keep pets in a quiet, secure room during trick-or-treating to reduce stress and prevent escapes through open doors.
🐾 Make sure your pet wears identification and has updated microchip information.
🐾 If your pet becomes anxious around strangers, costumes, or loud noises, give them a calm, safe space away from the festivities.

🚨 WHAT IF YOUR PET EATS SOMETHING TOXIC?
Don't wait for symptoms to appear! Contact your veterinarian or an emergency veterinary hospital immediately. Do not induce vomiting unless a veterinary professional instructs you to do so.

📞 ASPCA Animal Poison Control: 888-426-4435
📞 Pet Poison Helpline: 855-764-7661
Fees may apply.

❤️🐾 A LITTLE PREVENTION GOES A LONG WAY! Keeping candy, decorations, and other hazards out of reach helps ensure a safe and happy Halloween for every member of the family — including the four-legged ones! 🐶🐱🎃

Happy Sunday River Oak Family! Starting October 29th we will have a new phone system so don't panic when you call in. And please allow us a little time to adjust to it as well 😬 Also we would like to introduce you to....no name, because once again 12 people can't pick one name 🤣 SOMEONE left her at 10:30 PM in front of of our door taped inside a soda box. Although we understand people think they are doing the right thing, leaving a bottle fed baby alone for over 10 hours is not ok 😞 We will see how this all plays out but most of you already know Roo moved to Washington and Jolene and Wednesday decided they preferred to stay full-time with Shiloh. So we are catless 😭 The cat distribution may have spoken. Have a great rest of your day and enjoy her cute little face.

🐾💛 **HAPPY NATIONAL PUG DAY!** 💛🐾

🐶🎉 Today, we’re celebrating those adorable, wrinkly faces, curly tails, big personalities, and endless cuddles that make pugs so special! 🥰🐾

Pugs may be small, but they have HUGE hearts and an incredible talent for making us smile! From their silly snorts to their love of snuggling, these little companions bring so much joy to our lives. 💕🐾

💡 **Pug Parent Reminder!**
🐾 Pugs are a brachycephalic (short-nosed) breed, which means they can have difficulty breathing.
🐾 Keep them cool and avoid strenuous exercise in hot weather.
🐾 Maintain a healthy weight to help protect their breathing and joints.
🐾 Keep an eye on their eyes and skin folds to help prevent irritation and infection.
🐾 Schedule regular veterinary checkups to keep your pug happy and healthy! 🩺❤️

📸 **Let's see those squishy faces!** Drop a picture of your pug in the comments and tell us their name! We want to celebrate all the adorable pugs out there! 🐶👇

🐾💙 **HAPPY VETERINARY TECHNICIAN WEEK!** 💙🐾

This week, we celebrate the incredible veterinary technicians who dedicate their lives to caring for our beloved animals. 🐶🐱🐰🐴🐾

Vet techs are so much more than the people helping behind the scenes. They are the ones who:

🩺 Comfort scared and nervous patients
💉 Assist with treatments, surgeries, and procedures
❤️ Monitor patients and help keep them safe
🐾 Give medications and provide hands-on care
🧪 Run important tests and diagnostics
🤗 Offer comfort to pets and reassurance to their families
🌙 Work long hours, handle difficult situations, and still show compassion every day

They celebrate the good moments, carry the difficult ones, and give so much of themselves to the animals they care for.

**To every veterinary technician: THANK YOU!!!!** ❤️

Thank you for your patience, compassion, dedication, knowledge, and the countless things you do that often go unnoticed. The animals you care for may not be able to say it, but their people appreciate you more than you know.🐾

If you know a veterinary technician, take a moment this week to thank them, tag them, or leave them a little note of appreciation.** 💙

🐾 **Happy Veterinary Technician Week to all the amazing vet techs out there!** 🐾
