Happy mother’s day to this super handy gal😍 She doesn’t get showed off nearly as much as she should but she definitely has her hands involved with every c**t that comes in. THE ART OF STANDING STILL

The whole point of getting on your horse is to move, go somewhere, and to teach your horse. The best part of training horses is taking them through the process and watching them learn. As time goes on, the horse gets more fun to ride, and sometimes greed steps in because you want to keep going, because there truly is nothing more fun than riding a good horse doing cool stuff. This horse, in particular, is athletic, has a big motor, wants to please, and is a bit more on the reactive side. We started her as a two-year-old, and while she was most definitely on the challenging side, she is a very smart horse and is turning out to be super cool and fun to ride! (Those are her slide marks she’s standing next to.)

After loping circles, a few good stops, and checking off boxes for the ride, we sat for a long time after a good stop to end our ride. I gave her time to breathe, soak in everything she had just learned, and just look around at her surroundings. (Sometimes the boogie man lives behind the fence.) At this point in my ride, if I kept riding her, no matter how fun it was, she may have eventually become sour to her stops, causing her to quit trying and not doing them correctly anymore, opening a jar of problems and potentially frustration for both of us. Stop on a good note and just stand there and take it all in!
