Ringgold Animal Hospital We are a small animal hospital in Ringgold, Georgia. We see patients by appointment only. Our patients are dogs and cats only; we do not treat exotics or birds.

We are a small animal hospital located near the corner of Alabama Hwy (Hwy 151) and Nashville Street (Hwy 41), close to downtown Ringgold. We see patients by appointment during normal business hours. We perform surgeries by appointment only on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Call us to schedule an appointment today!

It’s Deaf Dog Awareness Week, and at Ringgold Animal Hospital, we want to shine a spotlight on the incredible, resilient dogs who navigate the world in silence.

Many people think a deaf dog might be "harder" to train or less connected to their family, but the truth is actually the opposite! Deaf dogs are incredibly observant and often form an even deeper bond with their owners because they rely so heavily on visual cues and body language.

How to "Speak" to a Deaf Dog:

Hand Signals 🖐️: Just like ASL for humans, dogs can easily learn hand signs for "sit," "stay," and "good boy!"

The "Good Job" Flash ✨: Since they can't hear "Yes!" or a clicker, many owners use a quick flash of a penlight or a thumbs-up to signal a reward.

Vibration Cues 📳: A gentle tap on the shoulder or a vibrating (not shock!) collar can be used to get their attention from a distance.

Safety First 🐾: Because they can’t hear approaching cars or barking dogs, keeping a deaf dog on a leash or in a fenced yard is a must for their safety.

September is National Service Dog Month, and at Ringgold Animal Hospital, we are tipping our hats to the hardest-working pups in the business!

A Service Dog is more than a highly trained pet; they are essential medical equipment for their handlers. From guiding the blind and alerting to seizures to detecting low blood sugar or providing mobility support, these dogs perform tasks that allow their humans to navigate the world safely.

3 Things to Know About Service Dog Teams:

It’s a Legal Right ⚖️: Under the ADA, service dogs are allowed in all public places where the public is normally allowed to go (restaurants, stores, hospitals). They aren't "pets"—they are working partners.

The "Two Questions" ❓: Business owners are legally allowed to ask only two questions: (1) Is the dog a service animal required because of a disability? and (2) What work or task has the dog been trained to perform?

Ignore the "Work" 🚫🐾: It’s tempting to whistle or "talk" to a cute service dog, but distractions can be dangerous. If a dog misses a cue because they were looking at a fan, their handler’s safety could be at risk.

September is National Disaster Preparedness Month. Whether it’s a sudden Georgia thunderstorm, a power outage, or an emergency evacuation, having a plan in place for your pets can save lives.

At Ringgold Animal Hospital, we want to make sure your entire family—furry members included—is ready for the unexpected. Use this checklist to build your Pet Emergency Kit this week:

Food & Water 🧊: At least a 3–5 day supply of their regular food and bottled water in airtight containers. Don’t forget a manual can opener!

Medication & Records 💊: A waterproof bag with a week's supply of any daily meds and a copy of their vaccination records (especially Rabies).

The "Safety Net" 🔍: Is their microchip info current? If you had to evacuate, a chip with your correct cell phone number is their best ticket home. (Call us at 706-937-7387 if you need us to scan them!)

Comfort Items 🧸: A familiar blanket or toy to help reduce stress in a noisy shelter or basement.

Leash, Collar & Carrier 🐕‍🦺: Make sure your contact info is written directly on the carrier and that collars have up-to-date ID tags.

September is Happy Cat Month, and the team at Ringgold Animal Hospital is celebrating all things feline! Since cats are so independent, it’s easy to assume they’re perfectly content—but a truly happy cat needs more than just a full bowl of kibble.

This month, we’re focusing on the four pillars of feline happiness:

Health First 🩺: A cat in pain or discomfort can’t be a happy cat. Since they hide illness so well, an annual check-up is the best way to ensure they feel their best from the inside out.

The "Vertical" Life 🪜: Cats love to be high up! Providing a cat tree, a window perch, or even a cleared-off bookshelf helps them feel safe and confident in their environment.

September is Animal Pain Awareness Month, and at Ringgold Animal Hospital, our goal is to help you "hear" what your pet is trying to tell you.

Because our pets can’t verbalize their discomfort, they often show pain through subtle changes in behavior that owners might mistake for "just getting older" or "slowing down." Identifying these signs early can dramatically improve your pet's quality of life!

Common Signs of Hidden Pain:

Hesitation: Pausing before jumping onto the couch or into the car.

Changes in Grooming: Cats may stop grooming their backs, or dogs may excessively lick a specific joint.

"Grumpy" Behavior: Becoming irritable when touched or withdrawing from family interactions.

Stairs & Flooring: Avoiding stairs or acting nervous on hardwood floors.

Sleep Changes: Restlessness at night or having trouble finding a comfortable position to lie down.
