We hear it all the time, and have experienced it ourselves as pet parents, that the wait times at Veterinary emergency hospitals and even urgent cares can be quite extensive. Every day brings different situations, making wait times variable. A good rule of thumb is for non-critical issues you could be there several hours before being seen by the doctor.

If your pet has a wait time at the emergency vet, it’s actually a good sign — it means your pet is stable. 💚

Emergency teams triage patients just like human ERs: the most critical cases are seen first. It is not first come first served. So while waiting can be stressful, it often means your pet isn’t in immediate danger.

One way to minimize your wait is to call ahead, while knowing that the situation may change, staff can usually give you an idea of where things stand and may advise waiting at home before heading their way.

Remember, the ER staff are doing the best they possibly can, and deserve some grace while dealing with difficult situations
