πΎ WHEN YOUR GROOMER TALKS TO YOU ABOUT BEHAVIOR, PLEASE KNOW ITβS COMING FROM A PLACE OF SAFETY β NOT JUDGMENT. πΎ
As professional groomers, we have an obligation to communicate with you when we see behavioral concerns during your petβs grooming appointment.
Biting, snapping, growling, fear, reactivity, extreme anxiety, or even being overly excited and unable to settle can create dangerous situations in a grooming salon.
When we tell you about these behaviors, we are not trying to shame you, embarrass you, or tell you that you have a βbad dog.β We are giving you important information so that we can work together to help your pet become safer and more comfortable with the grooming process.
β€οΈ Dogs have to learn how to be groomed.
It is not a dogβs natural instinct to stand still while a stranger touches their feet, handles their face, lifts their legs, brushes out tangles, uses clippers around their body, trims nails, or operates unfamiliar equipment around them.
That training starts at home.
Touch their feet. Handle their ears. Hold their face and chin. Brush them regularly. Practice standing still. Reward calm behavior. Introduce puppies to grooming early and continue practicing between appointments.
And most importantly, please tell your groomer about any known biting, snapping, fear, or reactive behavior BEFORE the appointment.
Please don't allow a groomer to walk into a grooming session blindly. Knowing a dog's history allows us to approach that pet differently, take additional precautions, and make decisions that protect both your pet and the person caring for them.
A dog bite isn't simply βpart of the job.β A serious injury to a groomer's hand, wrist, face, or arm can potentially affect their ability to continue doing the career they love.
Sometimes we may need to slow down. Sometimes we may recommend more frequent visits, training at home, professional training, or a different approach. And sometimes, for everyone's safety, we may have to stop a groom.
That isn't punishment. It's responsible pet care.
Your groomer and your pet are a team β and you are an important part of that team. The more we communicate and work together, the safer and more positive grooming can become.
At Angelaβs Pet Spa, our goal isn't just to make your pet beautiful. It's to provide a grooming experience that is as safe, comfortable, and positive as possible β for your pet AND our groomers. πΎβοΈβ€οΈ
