This is why it’s important to get radiographs and keep your horses on strict schedules, especially foundered/laminitic horses.

Here’s a list of the issues that can be seen in these radiographs:
-Severe founder (from chronic laminitis)
-Demineralization and remodeling of the coffin bone
-sidebone

Unfortunately there isn’t a whole lot we can do to keep this horse comfortable at this point, the founder is very severe and she is advanced in age. These are by far the worst radiographs I’ve seen in person, outside of a textbook.

Posting for a client.

Speeding Again “Speed” is a 17 year old ottb STALLION. Approximately 16h. Owners are getting out of horses and he is their last one. He is a well built tb and stands great to get his feet done. The pictures they sent me do not do him justice, he’s beautiful.

Owners say that he is very well behaved, does well with mares and he has produced nice foals. He has been rode in the past, both racing and pleasure riding, but has not been rode in a while.

He had a short racing career with only five races. He broke his sesamoids in one leg in his last race but he healed well and has been sound since then.

Owners are going to be VERY selective in what home he goes to and he will only go to an approved home. They would like to see the farm he will be going to. Message me if you are interested and I will get you in contact with them.

I never made the official announcement so here it is. About 2 months ago I finally completed my certification through the American Farrier's Association. Pretty pleased to say I’ve already completed 1/3 of the journeyman certification as well.

To be honest, the whole time I worked towards this certification I was plagued with anxiety and doubt in my ability to pass. I failed and failed and failed some more, but I didn’t give up when a lot of other people would have. I had to work to pass the tests but I also had to fight my own mental battles at the same time. I failed, not because I’m bad at my job, but because I lacked knowledge and the skills to cope with my own issues. I finally passed because I put time and effort into learning the things I needed to learn, but also because I realized that I was indeed capable of passing. I just needed to trust that my training, knowledge, and ability were sufficient to get me through.

Since I’ve had a large amount of calls/issues with this lately I’d like to clarify my policy on it. I will only be taking CONSISTENTLY SCHEDULED horses.

Consistently scheduled means a 6 week schedule for shod horses or 6/8 weeks for trims. I will only do exceptions for therapeutic cases that may require a shorter schedule. I will not take on last minute horses because your regular farrier won’t do them or they aren’t available as soon as you need them.
