Meet Blaine.

At just 9 months old, Blaine is everything you’d expect from a young dog. Sweet, affectionate, playful, and ready to be part of someone’s life. He loves people and once he knows you, he’s all about attention and companionship.

Blaine is still building confidence and learning about the world, but he’s making great progress every day. He would do best as the only dog in the home, where he can relax and soak up all the love for himself.

53 pounds of lovable young dog just waiting for his chance.

Ready to meet him? Apply on our website or contact [email protected] or 410-820-1600.

What a wonderful evening at Literacy Night at Lockerman Middle School!

Pebbles and Butterscotch had the best time meeting students, families, and staff, soaking up plenty of attention and listening to lots of great books being read. There is something truly special about watching children share their love of reading with animals, and our two furry ambassadors were more than happy to be part of the fun.

A huge thank you to Lockerman Middle School for inviting Caroline County Humane Society to participate in such a meaningful event. We are grateful for the opportunity to connect with our community and help inspire a love of both reading and animals.

Did you know you can do something similar right here at the shelter? Families are welcome to volunteer together and spend time reading to our cats, visiting with our animals, and helping them feel loved while they wait for their forever homes.

Thank you again to everyone who stopped by to say hello to Pebbles and Butterscotch tonight. We think they’ve earned a few extra treats and a long nap after all their hard work!

Volunteer Tuesday 🤍

Looking for a meaningful way to spend time together this summer?

Volunteering at Caroline County Humane Society can be a wonderful activity for families, friends, parents and teens, or anyone looking to give back while making memories along the way.

One day you might be taking a shelter dog on an adventure through town or a walk in the park. Another day you could be cuddling cats, helping at a community event, making enrichment toys, organizing donations, or lending a hand behind the scenes.

There is something special about working together toward a shared purpose, especially when that purpose has four paws and a wagging tail.

Whether you have a few hours a month or more time to give, we would love to welcome you to our volunteer team.

Summer is the perfect time to get involved, meet new people, learn new skills, and make a difference for animals in need.

Interested in joining us? Visit our website or email [email protected] to learn more about volunteer opportunities.

🎾 Meet Jax 🎾

If you’re looking for a dog with personality, Jax is your guy.

This 4 year old Shar Pei mix absolutely loves fetch, but his favorite part might be the celebration afterward. After bringing the ball back, Jax often throws himself on the ground and rolls around with it in pure happiness. It’s impossible not to smile watching him.

Jax is smart, treat motivated, and already knows several commands including sit, stay, and paw. He walks nicely on leash, appears to be house trained, and enjoys a good balance of playtime and relaxation.

Like many shelter dogs, Jax can seem a little excited in his kennel, but once he’s out and spending time with people, his sweet and affectionate personality shines. He loves attention, toys, treats, and showing off his adorable wagging tail.

Jax would do best as the only dog in the home where he can be the center of someone’s world.

Ready to meet your new best friend?

Apply on our website or contact [email protected] or 410-820-1600 to learn more about Jax.

📚🐾 Join Us Tomorrow at Literacy Night! 🐾📚

We're excited to be part of Lockerman Middle School's Literacy Night tomorrow, June 2, from 5:30–8:00 PM!

This free community event will feature games, crafts, raffles, the book fair, community resources, and a special visit from author Meg Eden Kuyatt as she celebrates the launch of her new book, *Perfect Enough*.

Of course, we'll be there too with a couple of our shelter dogs who are looking forward to meeting everyone. Stop by to say hello, spend some time with them, and maybe even read them a story or two. There is something pretty special about seeing kids and dogs share a love of books.

We love opportunities like this that bring together literacy, community, and animals, and we hope to see lots of familiar faces there tomorrow evening!

Meet Pebbles! 🤍

This sweet 4 year old Pit Bull mix is quickly becoming a staff and volunteer favorite, and it's not hard to see why.

Pebbles is the kind of dog who just wants to be near her people. She loves affection, enjoys spending time with her human friends, walks beautifully on leash, and even knows how to sit politely for treats.

She's gentle, easygoing, and has settled into shelter life with a sweetness that makes everyone root for her.

Now what Pebbles really needs is a home of her own. We can picture her perfectly: stretched out on a cozy couch, soaking up belly rubs, and living the pampered life she deserves.

If you're looking for a loving companion with a heart of gold, come meet Pebbles and see why so many of us have fallen for her already.

Apply on our website or contact [email protected] or 410-820-1600 to learn more about meeting Pebbles.

Happy Sunday from all of us at Caroline County Humane Society!

We hope you’re spending today enjoying the sunshine, making memories with family, and soaking up some quality time with the people and pets you love most.

As we get ready to head into another busy week filled with new intakes, rescue transports, spay/neuter appointments, medical care, and hopefully plenty of adoptions, we have one small favor to ask.

If you’ve borrowed a cat carrier from us please bring it back to the shelter when you are able. Our carriers are an important part of our daily operations and help us safely transport cats and kittens to veterinary appointments, rescue partners, foster homes, and new families.

Have a gently used carrier you’d like to donate? We’d be grateful for those too. Cat carriers are always one of our most-needed items, especially during kitten season.

Thank you for helping us care for the animals who depend on us. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday, and we’ll see you this week!

Foster Friday feels especially important this week.

In just the last few days, more than 20 kittens have come through our doors. Tiny kittens who needed bottles, warmth, extra care, and a safe place to grow.

Because of our incredible foster families, we were able to say “yes.”

While our shelter fills up quickly during kitten season, our fosters create space, provide comfort, and give these little ones exactly what they need to thrive. They wake up for late night feedings, clean up endless messes, celebrate every ounce gained, and help some of our most vulnerable animals get their best start in life.

To every foster who stepped up this week, thank you. Your kindness is making a difference in ways you may never fully realize.

Kitten season is far from over, and we know more babies will be arriving in the weeks ahead. If you’ve ever considered fostering, now is a wonderful time to get involved. We provide the support and supplies you need. You provide the love.

To learn more about becoming a foster, contact Savanna at [email protected].

Together, we can keep saying “yes” to animals in need.

📌A quick note about the kittens you may see in these photos: most are still too young to be available for adoption and will remain in foster care for several weeks. As they grow, some may return to CCHS for adoption while others may be transferred to one of our rescue partners. Because of this, we are unable to place holds or guarantee availability on individual kittens at this stage

Today, Tazz and Butterscotch had the opportunity to spend some time visiting our friends at the adult day care, and it was a day filled with smiles, laughter, and lots of snuggles.

Tazz soaked up all the attention like the sweet boy he is, while little Butterscotch charmed everyone he met. The joy on both the residents' faces and the animals' faces was something special to see.

These visits are a wonderful reminder that the healing power of animals goes both ways. The people they meet enjoy the companionship, and our shelter pets benefit from new experiences, extra love, and a break from their daily routines.

Thank you to everyone who welcomed Tazz and Butterscotch today. We think they left with just as full a heart as everyone they visited. ❤️
