🚶‍♀️🐾 Walk With Us Wednesday + Summer Safety Series☀️

Today's walk comes with an important summer reminder:

If it's too hot for your bare feet, it's too hot for your dog's paws.

Many people don't realize that pavement, asphalt, concrete, and even artificial turf can become dangerously hot during the summer months. On a sunny day, surfaces can be much hotter than the air temperature and can cause painful burns to your dog's paw pads in just minutes.

☀️ Before heading out, try the **7-second test:**
Place the back of your hand on the pavement. If you can't comfortably hold it there for 7 seconds, it's too hot for your dog's paws.

Here are a few ways to keep your walks safe:
🐾 Walk early in the morning or later in the evening
🐾 Stick to grass and shaded trails when possible
🐾 Bring water for both you and your dog
🐾 Watch for signs your dog is uncomfortable, such as slowing down, limping, or seeking shade

Summer adventures are one of the best parts of dog ownership, but a little planning goes a long way in keeping our four-legged friends safe.

Now tell us: where is your favorite place to walk your dog during the summer? 🌳🐕

💙 **Meet Duke!** 💙

This handsome 7 year old Lab mix is the perfect blend of sweet, playful, and easygoing. He loves spending time with people and has done well in our playgroups with other dogs. Duke previously lived with a small dog, though any resident dogs will still need to meet him before adoption to make sure everyone is a good match.

Duke has spent the last several weeks healing from some skin issues, and we are so proud of the progress he has made. Now that he's feeling better and looking better every day, he's ready to start the next chapter of his life with a family of his own.

✨ 7 years old
✨ Sweet and friendly
✨ Still enjoys playtime and adventures
✨ Has done well with other dogs
✨ Ready for a fresh start

Duke has waited long enough. Let's help this handsome boy find the loving home he deserves. 🐾

💎 Diamond is the kind of dog who leaves a little sparkle everywhere she goes.

This beautiful girl has been with us for a little while now, and the more we get to know her, the more we adore her. Diamond is playful, energetic, and full of personality with just the right amount of goofy thrown in.

She absolutely LOVES rope toys and takes them very seriously. If you try to take her favorite toy, expect a very dramatic “Swiper, no swiping!” attitude. It’s one of her many quirks that keeps us laughing.

But what really makes Diamond shine is how wonderful she is with others. She has joined us at community events and has been amazing meeting new people and kids, happily soaking up attention and showing off her sweet personality.

And when it comes to other dogs? Diamond is a rockstar. ⭐️ She has participated in playgroups and has done well with every dog we’ve introduced her to. She’s playful, patient, and knows how to have fun while respecting her dog friends.

✨ Loves people and does great at events
✨ Friendly with other dogs in playgroups
✨ Medium-to-high energy
✨ Loves rope toys
✨ Playful, silly, and full of personality

Diamond is still young and has so much life and love ahead of her. Now all she needs is a family to share it with.

Come meet this shining girl and see for yourself why we’ve all fallen for her. ❤️

☀️🐾 Shelter Summer Wishlist 🐾☀️

Our pups are ready for summer, and while they already have everything they need, we’d love to spoil them with a few things that make the season extra fun!

If you’ve ever wanted to send a little something our way, here are a few items our dogs would absolutely love:

💦 Kiddie pools for splashing around
🦴 Freezable and fillable bones for cool summer treats
🍖 Tasty treats for training and snack time
🧺 Clean towels — new or gently used
👕 Sun shirts in Large and XL for our pups with sensitive or healing skin

Picture Davey lounging in a kiddie pool, Blaine enjoying a frozen treat, or one of our healing pups sporting a stylish sun shirt while soaking up the sunshine. These little extras help make shelter life a little more fun while they wait for their forever families.

If you’d like to brighten a shelter pet’s summer, we’d be so grateful for your support. ❤️

Because every dog deserves a little summer fun.

🌊☀️ Welcome to our Summer Safety Series! ☀️🌊

Summer is officially here, and all week long we’ll be sharing tips to help keep your furry family members safe, healthy, and happy all season long!

Over the next week, we’ll be covering topics like:
🐾 Hot pavement safety
🥾 Hiking with dogs
🌡️ Heat stroke warning signs
🍉 Safe summer treats
🐱 Summer tips for outdoor cats
…and of course, some fun summer moments with our shelter animals too!

Today, we’re kicking things off with Water Safety for Pets!

Summer means beach days, pool parties, kayaking adventures, and afternoons by the water. But did you know that not all dogs are natural swimmers?

💦 Never force your dog into the water. Let them explore at their own pace and make sure every experience is a positive one.

🦺 Consider a life jacket. Even strong swimmers can get tired, especially in deep water, on boats, or in rough currents.

🌊 Watch out for waves and currents. Rivers, lakes, and the ocean can be unpredictable, and pets can quickly become overwhelmed.

🚱 Bring fresh drinking water. Drinking salt water or too much lake water can make pets sick.

🟢 Be aware of blue-green algae. Some algae blooms are toxic to pets and can be life-threatening if ingested. If the water looks suspicious or has warning signs posted, keep pets away.

👀 Always supervise. Even pets that love the water should never be left unattended around pools, ponds, or other bodies of water.

The best summer adventures are the ones everyone comes home from safely. So grab the leash, pack some fresh water, and make some memories with your furry best friend! 🐾

What is your pet’s favorite summer activity? Tell us below! ⬇️

How is this sweet goofball still waiting?

At first glance, Davey looks like he should be starring in an action movie. He’s big, strong, and has that serious face that can make people do a double take.

Then you actually meet him.

And suddenly he’s making goofy faces, rolling around in the grass, asking for attention, and showing off the sweetest, softest heart imaginable.

Davey absolutely loves people. He loves playtime in the yard, soaking up affection, and being part of whatever his humans are doing. He is the kind of dog who just wants to love and be loved.

Davey does need to be the only dog in the home, but not because he’s mean or aggressive. He was bullied by the other dogs in his original home, and those experiences left him fearful and unsure around other dogs. He deserves a family willing to be patient, help him build confidence, and let him finally feel safe.

Because underneath those muscles and that tough-guy look is a sensitive soul who has been waiting far too long for someone to see him for who he really is.

And trust us… once you do, it’s impossible not to love him.

Come meet Davey and see for yourself. We think you’ll fall for the big tough guy who’s actually just a giant sweetheart. ❤️🐾

Happy Father’s Day!

Today we’re celebrating all the dads who make the world a little kinder.

To the fathers raising children, the grandfathers sharing wisdom, the stepdads showing up every day, and the pet dads waking up early for walks, sharing their snacks when they swore they wouldn’t, and somehow ending up with no room left on the couch… thank you.

From all of us at Caroline County Humane Society, we wish a very happy Father’s Day to every dad who has ever opened their heart and home to someone who needed them.

We hope your day is filled with wagging tails, purring cats, happy memories, and plenty of love. ❤️🐾

Sunday Adoption Round Up! 🐾

What a beautiful week it’s been at the shelter.

Please help us celebrate these incredible animals who are starting their next chapter:

Adopted ❤️
▫️Magnolia
▫️Stormi
▫️Foxy
▫️Boomerang

Foster to Adopt 🏡
▫️Pickles
▫️Tippy
▫️Skeeter
▫️Figara

Every adoption is a fresh start. Every foster to adopt is a family taking a chance and opening their heart. These happy endings remind us why we do this work, even on the hardest days.

To everyone who adopted, fostered, shared posts, volunteered, or cheered these animals on from afar, thank you. You are part of their stories too.

And for all the animals still waiting, we’re believing your turn is coming soon. If you’ve been thinking about adopting or fostering, come visit us this week. Your new best friend might be waiting for you right now. ❤️🐾
