The same goes here. I LOVE when a dog I produce goes on to do sports. But I won't sacrifice the quality of life for the dog in order to have that happen. Part of my selection criteria is that these dogs are capable of living as house dogs, being part of the owners life, and still go work and title. I will place a dog in a non titling home where its needs are met and the dog is appreciated for what it is, over a competition home that views the dog as a piece of equipment used to boost their ego every damn day.

Effective immediately, Maine Working Dogs will no longer place dogs in sport only homes.

To clarify, sport-only homes are not the same as homes that participate in dog sports while providing their dogs with fulfilling lives outside of competition. We have no issue with dog sports; we simply will not place dogs in homes where training, titles, and competition are their entire existence.

We breed for ourselves first and for legitimate operational work, including law enforcement, detection, search and rescue, and personal protection. Our dogs are not produced for competition, titles, or sporting recognition.

We would far rather place a suitable dog in a responsible family protection home, where the owners are committed to investing the time, training, structure, and continued development that the dog requires, than place it in a competitive environment that does not align with our program. A working dog deserves more than simply being worked. It deserves capable ownership, appropriate care, and a meaningful life outside of training.

Our responsibility to these dogs does not end when ownership changes hands. We brought them into this world, we decide where they go, and we have to live with those decisions.

🐾Puppies On The Way🐾

I'm so incredibly excited to announce that Glory was bred to Supreme GrCH Gunslinger's Bacchus Roman Empire IGP3. Puppies are due around November 1st.

I am accepting a limited number of deposits and I would love to find some show and performance sport homes. I also welcome applications from active companion homes.

Life threw lots of curveballs at me this year but we got it done πŸ’ͺ🏼

I am often asked how my dogs are raised and kept. My dogs are house dogs.

Yes, drivey dogs can be house dogs too. It's part of why the American Bulldog is my breed of choice.

I don't like dogs that are constantly spun up, pacing around looking for something to do, or unable to tell the difference between when it's time to work and when it's time to relax.

I want my dogs to be balls to the wall full throttle when we are training or working, and able to come in the house and completely shut it off when we are done.

It does still take effort. House manners and the ability to settle are part of my training from a very young age. As is providing plenty of opportunity for the dogs to use their brains and bodies. I take them for hikes, to swim, train, work and explore.

For me, a good working dog needs to know when it is time to **turn it on** and when it is time to **turn it off.**

That balance is something I deliberately select for and train for.

Living with a group of American Bulldogs takes another level of management. My dogs have strong personalities and they do not all love each other all the time. It's very important to understand each dog and have a system in place to reduce tension and redirect any form of frustration. I don't allow dogs to "work things out" on their own.

Having a pack of these suckers is its own category of living lol a combination of training and genetics makes this possible.

(((I don't recommend keeping multiple American Bulldogs in the house for most people. This takes work, experience, and management. They don't just magically coexist because they were raised together. Training begins early around here and I have a specific process that does include separation, crating, and the use of outdoor kennel runs from time to time (like during heat cycles))))

Well, jumping and bouncing and pouncing and wiggling all day for any reason if we're honest (Ursa.. not me πŸ˜‚)

Because Ursa was also taken in for X-rays with Dr Siegel

Another OFA Good!

Because I am always transparent I will also post that she did come back with DJD1 UL for her elbows. This does not remove her from the program, however. With no signs of UAP, FCP, or OCD in that elbow at 40mo and her right being Normal, she will only be bred to males with Normal gradings and I will xray her elbows again as she ages.

Both her and Warlock are DNA clear by parentage but I will still have them Embarked here shortly and then both will be submitted for their CHIC!

Warlock OFA Good, Elbows Normal!

While in Wisconsin during my long ass road trip, I took advantage of being able to get to my favorite OFA vet, Dr Siegel in Madison.

Warlock is the 3rd dog from his litter to be x-rayed and given Good / Normal results! The other 2 are Nori and Biko over at Valor, our good friends who whelped and raised Warlock's litter
