It's getting ready to start heating up for summer here in Virginia 🥵, so we thought it's time to share our Summer Heat Safety Tips for this year.
We know it's fun to take your dog (and sometimes cat depending on the cat) out for summertime activities like hiking, visiting parks, chilling at Texas Beach, or floating on the James, but make sure you are staying safe. Keep an eye on the temperatures and on your pet for any signs of heat exhaustion or heatstroke. Summer is fun, but we want everyone and their furry friends to be safe.

Are you ready for the most ridiculously cute drop of the year? Well it's here...KITTENS.

There are so many kittens and you can take the tiniest, cutest ones home to foster (we need you to take them home to foster).

Kittens are incredibly vulnerable in the shelter environment because they are not fully vaccinated and their immune systems are still developing. We need them to be out of the shelter and in homes where they are safer from germs, and they get way more socialization to prepare them for their new homes.

He's enthusiastic, he's right there with you in the kitchen, and he may or may not be on the counter. Details.

This 2-year-old black and white guy is playful, loving, and has zoomies and a laser pointer obsession to prove it. When the chaos settles, he'll find the nearest free cushion just to be in the same room as you.

Oh, and he likes treats. He asked us to mention the treats.

Don't let the name fool you. 👻

Banshee is possibly the LEAST scary dog you'll ever meet. This 6-month-old wiggle machine is all about cuddles, chew toys, and leaning against you for pets like you're his favorite person in the whole world.

He already knows "sit" and "leave it," he's conquered his fear of the kitchen, and his foster family is completely smitten with him. He just needs his forever family to be, too.

If you're looking for a fun, affectionate, treat-motivated best friend who's ready to grow up with you, Banshee is your guy.

Well meet Tahoe!

While Tahoe's size might turn heads, his big heart is what truly defines him.

He is an incredibly loyal and affectionate young man and he is happiest when he is close to his humans (and he wants to be close, he will climb in your lap if given the opportunity).

Despite his size, Tahoe is not very confident and would benefit from a canine companion who can show him the ropes in his new home.

Madeleine Update!

After consulting with her specialist in Pennsylvania, our team has made the decision to leave Madeleine's face and mouth as they are. She has healed beautifully from her dental surgery, she is eating and drinking well, and she shows no signs of pain. After carefully weighing all the options, the consensus is clear: she is doing just fine.

She still needs to be spayed, which will happen later this week, and then this resilient, remarkable girl will be ready for her new home.
