Spend the fall season with a foster rabbit from House Rabbit Society! No rabbit experience required. Learn more at houserabbit.org/foster. We're located in Richmond, just north of Berkeley, but welcome fosters from all over the San Francisco Bay Area. We only ask for a 2-week commitment.

What We Provide: We'll equip you with all the supplies you need to get started, including an x-pen, litter box, bedding, food pellets, hay, blankets, and bowls for food and water. As a foster, you also receive a 15% discount at the HRS Hop Shop if you'd like to purchase any additional toys or treats while you foster.

What You Provide: The time, space, love, and care your foster rabbit needs, along with their daily veggies (approximately $5-10 per week). Getting socialization in a foster home is so important, especially for rabbits who are shy or have other behavior needs and helping them become more comfortable with people. You can help a foster rabbit blossom into the wonderful house rabbit they're truly meant to be!

Questions? Email [email protected] or stop by our facility to talk in-person with HRS volunteers and staff and to meet the rabbits. We recently transitioned to our winter hours; we're open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 am to 4 pm and on Sunday from 11 am to 3 pm. We'd love to talk with you!

Spottie Dottie is a sweet girl who doesn’t startle easily and will delicately take snacks from your hand and crawl on you for pets (she particularly likes her cheeks rubbed and will let you know with gentle teeth grinds). She has excellent litter box habits and is quick to come say ‘hello’ with friendly nose bonks.

Special treats launch Dottie into zoomies and the most adorable binkys. She is generally mild and gentle but her playful side shines through when presented with new toys. Despite being respectful of the furniture, she is quick toss, explore, and rearrange any gift given to her. Occasionally she will dig or nip at objects in her way (even people) but is quickly learning with a loud ‘eep’ when her rough housing is not appreciated. Dottie's idea of playing is exploring! She's very curious and will check out new things with caution at first. She will toss around a toy a few times then ignore it.

Dottie was recently in a foster home, and here's what they had to say about their time with her: "She’s very inquisitive and curious about her environment. She has a lot of energy and would prioritize exploring over sleeping. She has been successful scurrying into areas we didn’t want her to be in (behind the laundry unit), so while she is a sweet bunny, she may benefit from a true play pen set up and someone who has thought through the nooks and crannies of the space."

Spottie Dottie is spayed, microchipped, and vaccinated against RHDV2 (vaccine needs to be administered annually). House Rabbit Society recommends all rabbits see a rabbit-savvy veterinarian once a year.

Evie (formerly Evee) was adopted from House Rabbit Society earlier this year, and she is loving life with her family & rabbit friend Chanel!

Her adopter shares, "Evie was a big foster fail. When it was time to give her back to HRS, we just knew that we had to do whatever we could to keep her. We’ve had Evie for over 6 months now and have loved every bit of our time with her.

She used to free-roam the whole house, but her mission to decorate our living room carpet with hideous holes paved the way for her own room, where she lives like a queen. Always two steps behind her is her Holland Lop buddy (Chanel). Together (and never apart), they spend most of their day sleeping under the bed or squished inside a hidey house. However, after a hearty dinner of pellets and lettuce, they hop at your heels and beg for a treat.

Shortly after meeting Evie, we discovered just how clever she is. She quickly learned to recognize her name, and she’d run up to us whenever we called. And no matter where she is, she’ll come bounding over at the sound of pellets, circling our feet impatiently until we give them to her. She loves food, and after a full belly, she consents to be petted (on her terms).

Despite her sweet demeanor, she really is a sassy bun. She’s a bunny who knows what she wants and exactly when she wants it, which is usually ASAP. If she wants food, she won’t hesitate to beg, standing on her hind legs with the cutest face you’ll ever see (especially reserved for food).

This little ball of fur is the sweetest, smartest, and sassiest bunny ever. And she has really been the perfect bunny for us! Thank you, House Rabbit, for matching us so perfectly with Evie!!"

This hands-on class will teach you how to safely brush your rabbit, trim their nails, and clean their a**l glands, along with tips and techniques you can use to confidently continue their grooming routine at home. Two weeks from today, join us for a day of spooky, festive fun at our trick-or-treat with the rabbits event! 🎃👻 Stop by our facility at 148 Broadway in Richmond on Saturday, October 31, from 11 am to 3 pm. Wear your costume and stroll through the building to meet our adoptable rabbits. No tricks here — just treats for kids and bunnies alike!

Nala and Akane are an adorable bonded duo who bring calm, affection, and charm to every moment. These two are wonderful with children—whenever they heard the kids in their foster home nearby, they’d rush over for pets and attention. Nala especially loves being doted on and never misses an opportunity for extra love.

With new people, they’re gentle and easygoing. Akane can be a bit shy at first, especially with noise, while Nala is the confident one of the pair and often takes the lead (especially at mealtime—she may nudge Akane aside for first dibs!). Despite their different personalities, they make a perfect match and truly adore each other.
Their favorite activities include exploring at a relaxed pace, cuddling together, and hanging out in their cardboard house—one lovingly crafted by their foster family. Akane often claims the inside as his cozy spot while Nala patrols the outside, ready to greet anyone who walks by. They don’t jump or zoom much, but they enjoy moving around, investigating new nooks, and checking in with their humans.

They aren’t big chewers—other than the occasional cardboard snack—and they prefer snuggles over toys. The only quirk? They have a talent for tipping over their water bowl, though no one has ever caught them in the act!

Soft, affectionate, and irresistibly sweet, Nala and Akane are a heart-melting pair who bring comfort and companionship to any home. They would be a wonderful fit for families and anyone looking for a bonded pair full of gentle love.

Benji (short for Benjimin, formerly known as Bunnelby) was adopted from House Rabbit Society earlier this year, and is doing so well! His adopter shares, "Benji has adjusted very well to the comfy life in his forever home. He started off very skittish and alert, but has blossomed into a calmer, curious, and cuddly bunny. Benji enjoys flopping anywhere (esp. right next to momma) to take a quick nap, will run circles around your feet at the sound of a treat bag, and always needs an evening zoomie and parkour session around the living room before bedtime. His favorite things include: yummy treats, fresh veggies, a good fleece blanket, fluffy pillows, grooming people’s socks (a very peculiar preference), and exploring new spaces.

It has been a joy watching this little guy grow, rest, and play over the last six months. He has brought a lot of healing into my life after losing my last bunny earlier this year. Right after I officially adopted Benji, I found out that the day I said goodbye to my last bunny just so happens to be the same date as Benji’s birthday. I’d like to think Benji was meant to be my “foster fail”, and I am so grateful he was."
