Update: SOLD!
Congratulations and happy trails to Athena and her new family 🎉 looking forward to seeing this sweet girl get her groove back in a home where she’s really going to shine with leadline kiddos to love her to pieces and adults that appreciate her for who she is ❤️

🦄 Unicorn seeking a new family! 🦄

Athena is a 17yr old grade QH mare, gentle and sweet natured. She’s here for physical fitness and to help her find her happy ending. She has spent the last year in rehab care after being taken in by a friend of mine who got her out of a rough situation.

Over the past year she has been seen by dentist, vets, body workers and farrier to get her in full health and feeling great. Her front feet are still a work in progress - per vet and farrier eval, there’s nothing structurally wrong, she just grows differently between her front feet shapes.
Travels fine at all speeds despite it, but has been out of riding shape for a while. Can feel a little stiff on the front end after loping in deep sand, but walks it off just fine.

She had not been ridden in at least a year prior to coming here and so far she’s done everything asked of her like she has had no time off at all. Super laid back and hasn’t indicated an ounce of spookiness. Not “fancy” with a lot of buttons but she’s got a yes ma’am personality, very point and shoot and enjoys attention. Going good in a plain o-ring, appreciates a looser rein.

Have not measured her, but I’d say she’s about 14.3hh. Built plenty stout and stocky. Would make a good addition to a lesson or therapy program or be a nice easy-going trail horse. Could also see her being a starter for a lead line kiddo that can grow into independent riding with this gal.

Loads great, easy to catch, enjoys a bath, polite handling her feet, coggins and vaxs just renewed, ready to roll.

From what her current owner has been able to find out about Athea’s past- she has done parades (including fort bend fair parade) and been a go-to beginner safe spare in her previous home.

Message me to discuss and set up a time to come meet her.

Black Cat Mules & More is now booking outside horses and mules into Summer of 2026! (Got a couple spots left for the spring - next available spot opens up on MARCH 16!)

If you’ve been wanting to send your horse or mule over to fix problem behaviors, get a little tune up, add finishing and finesse or have a youngster started under saddle with a solid foundation, send me a message so we can start discussing training plans and packages/pricing. Rates vary based on which program will best suit the needs and goals of you and your critter.

30 day minimum on all client horses and mules
60-90 days not required, but highly encouraged to plan for when it comes to c**t starts, but that depends on what level of start you’re wanting vs where your youngster is at mentally and physically.

I will answer inquiries in the order that they come in, text is best: 281-723-3662

UPDATE: the March 16 check-in has been claimed. Still building out the summer calendar. Hit me up before we’re booking into the fall months!

How the heck did I come up with the name?

Well, you see I’ve got a problem with not being able to turn away a stray cat in need. I rarely get any animals on purpose. However, I PURPOSELY got myself a solid black long hair polydactyl kitten. Mr Echo was a holy terror and did NOT make a good apartment cat. So I brought him out to my mom’s place at Carroll Stables where he lived the high life for the rest of his days. My dad made a smart remark that if i brought home any more black cats we would have to change the name of the place to Black Cat Ranch.

I had also just bought Frances and was looking at a lot of “such and such Mule Co.” pages for insight into the long eared brain, and thinking about making a freeze brand one day.

A little while later my friend Mariah and I were brainstorming brand ideas. She came up with Shootin M for her photography page and suggested Circle M mules (like when they get rank you just circle ‘em mules till they quit their s**t lol)

I’m also a big fan of fireworks. Particularly BLACK CAT FIRECRACKERS 🧨

And so became the 💣 brand. It’s a Circle M with a cherry bomb fuse off the top. Some people have called it the bomb proof brand. I’ve always corrected that… it’s more of a warning label lol All my animals are quirky in some way. They might be bomb proof today and have a short fuse tomorrow. But after years of continued learning for both myself and my personal critters, that brand has become a badge of honor that is difficult to earn.

All our personal animals have a job and role in helping the young horses and mules as well as the older ones with problem behaviors find comfort in a herd environment, and our herd is always ready to welcome new personalities into their ever-shifting totem pole. Just call em the bomb squad I guess, because the whole herd helps with different pieces of my training process.

Here is the original black cat logo that Cathy put together for me years ago.

If you’re wanting to send a young horse or mule for c**t starting, got one that needs a refreshed tune up, or got a heathen on your hands that needs help working thru problem behaviors, send me a message and let’get a plan together and get your critter on the list. (And if we have already chatted some, wouldnt be a bad idea to touch base - my January was ROUGH yall. Try having poison ivy on your entire face for a month 😅🫣)

So far this year is shaping up to be a really good one… baby barrel horses, furthering my education in bridle horses, dabbling in some cattle work, making time to compete in AHCA, EXCA, and maybe some ranch horse shows sprinkled on top.

Ok but is your horse crop duster broke? 😜
One of the many advantages of our location is the wide variety of things our personal and client animals get to experience.

Welcome to the funny farm, Maestro!

Maestro is a 15yr old Oldenburg gelding, now retired from his life as a dressage horse after being diagnosed with DSLD. He’s here to re-learn the ins and outs of herd life as we work closely with our favorite vets and body workers to tailor his DSLD management in ways that will ensure he can safely and comfortably experience the joys of country life.

He’s as sweet and loving as he is gorgeous, and I’m sure it won’t be long before T and Harvey have adopted him into their little “bay boys gang”.

This is your annual reminder to check your horses for fungal skin problems caused by moisture and mud. I am not a vet. This is not medical advice. But this is what I do for my horses and mules during the Southeast TX wet season. .

Silver was not impressed with Eli’s attempts to flirt with her when she first came down from Missouri for her 30 day tune up before AHCA Nationals

Flashback to HQH Poco Diamond Silver (Honeybee’s big sister) on her first time at the beach. I really enjoyed spending 30days prepping this gritty mare and then showing her for Hutson Quarter Horses at American Horsemen Challenge Assn Nationals.
