This page is closing tonight. We will be keeping the Instagram active, but closing the FB page. I don't use FB personally, so I never check this page for updates.

CVRR will be closing at the end of next month permanently. The courtesy adoption board and web forums will be disabled at the end of this month.

This was intended to be a small rescue, and I've struggled to keep it running financially because of the huge demand of reptile surrenders in Virginia. At the peak, we were getting roughly 20 calls/emails per day just in surrender requests alone, many of the time were not just one animal. It has become very overwhelming since I'm only one person, and I am not financially or physically able to run the rescue any longer.

I've been searching for someone to take over with no such luck, so this was the next step. It's sad to have to close, I've spent a lot of time and energy working to build this up over the years and turn it into a modern, scientifically up to date rescue that is 100% volunteer run.

We were able to find homes for animals that are still all thriving as I do get updates frequently from their wonderful adoptive parents, so that's something to be thankful for.

We've been getting the same questions so hopefully this can answer them for you.

We are closed, not entirely sure when or if we will reopen. I will be looking into other options to continue rescue efforts, but I will be taking this time to recover. I will be checking messages and emails periodically.

All of our animals have been adopted with approved applicants or placed with trusted rescues. We do not have any available for adoption. We are not accepting surrenders.

We are not giving enclosures or supplies away.

Our courtesy adoption board is still available to all, and we have discussion boards if anyone is looking for care advice.

There are not any volunteer positions available currently. If and when we reopen, we will revisit this need.

Please reach out if you have any further questions.

We are in the process of placing all of our animals into permanent homes, and will be closed until further notice. We cannot take any surrenders at this time.

Our courtesy adoption board will still be up and running so people are able to rehome pets or look for new pets completely for free.

We will post an update when we are ready to reopen.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

We were able to raise $185.15 towards Shyla the bearded dragon's surgery today. You can follow for updates.

We will be pausing taking in any new animals until further notice. Adoptions will not be affected.

Long story short, Sunday afternoon, I was in a pretty bad car accident while stopped at a red light. I won't get into the details here, but my car was totalled and I was left with a pretty serious injury. This will limit what I am able to do for the few weeks (or months) while I am healing and until I get a new vehicle. Normally, I don't let anything slow me down, but this is something I cannot mess with.

All rescues are being well cared for by a couple of our volunteers, but I may look into sending some to our fosters during this time.

Our courtesy adoption board is still available to anyone looking to rehome their pets and this is a free service we offer and is available by going to our website centralvirginiareptilerescue.org (link in bio).

We will be looking for ways to still achieve our mission to help pet reptiles find their forever homes, we just may be leaning primarily towards our foster program now. If you would like to be a foster, please fill out an application on our website.

Emails, messages and voicemails will be answered as soon as we are able so please be patient during this time.

Third time's the charm! Harry Potter Python has been live fed for 25 years, and our policy is to at least attempt to switch snakes over to frozen thawed. We had a rescue last year named Medusa that was 5 years old and was a live feeder, took 3 months to get her switched over, so I figured Harry Potter Python would take a lot longer. Nope! He took only 3 tries in 2 weeks. After another successful feeding, he should be all ready to go to his forever home.

And good thing Sammy the Tegu also enjoys frozen thawed rats, because nothing went to waste.

Looking for 1 or 2 people for an administrative data entry volunteer position. Approximately 2-4 hours of volunteer time per month.

We need someone to enter information about animals into a new database to make reporting at the end of the year easier, and to be able to track everything better. This is a remote opportunity, we would email you a link to the forms, you would just have to enter the information into an online database.

If interested, please email [email protected].

Vegeta is a little fiesty, but it seems he will try and bite only when we attempt to pick him up. He doesn't seem mind head pets at all. He loves all sorts of food though, veggies, greens, fruit, bugs, so that's a huge plus.
