Swansboro Community Garden

Swansboro Community Garden Swansboro Community Garden consists of 24 raised beds. The site is a little under a quarter acre & located in a food apartheid.

The Swansboro Community Garden’s purpose is to provide a space for the promotion of and education in urban agriculture while simultaneously developing a space for youth entrepreneurship and intergenerational community building. The census tract in which the proposed community garden is located has been identified by the USDA as a food desert. The cultivation of the Swansboro Baptist Church’s vacan

t lot at the corner of Crutchfield and Roanoke St in collaboration with Reveille Church will serve as a holistic approach to addressing food insecurity and limited healthy food access while also providing community members with an outdoor training center for careers in a sustainable local food system.

A coordinator is expected to grow their own food and assist in growing / distributing plants and food for the Southside community. 4 coordinator positions representing each corner of the new greenhouse are available for 2022-2023!

1 year responsibilities include:
• Engaging with community
• Starting seedlings in early spring
• Distributing extra seedlings
• Maintaining/watering plants in the summer
• Starting/overwintering cold hardy plants in fall
• HAVING FUN and sharing your ideas!

✅ We’re having another community mulch day THIS Saturday ! ✅ The chicken house is almost ready for hens! We put down some chip mulch as bedding for the 6 hens that will live in this space in a couple months - fully protected from hawks and coyotes.

Next step: build a chicken coop! (Please drop off any scrap wood you may have laying around)

Shoutout to everyone who came out last Saturday, together we moved about 15 cubic yards of mulch, repainted the plot numbers, and revamped the compost! Thanks to for supplying the chicks, for the bird netting, and for the mulch hookup! Grow grow grow!!!! @ Swansboro Community Garden
