Susan M. Markel Veterinary Hospital at the Richmond SPCA The Susan M. Markel Veterinary Hospital is a full-service veterinary hospital providing quality low-cost care to ensure that pets remain in loving homes.

Our mission is to ensure that families of all means have access to treatment options they can afford for their canine and feline companions. As an expansion of the Richmond SPCA's pet-retention services, the Susan M. Markel Veterinary Hospital will help pets stay with their families while enjoying a greater quality of life. In addition to caring for pets of income-qualified families, the Susan M. Markel Veterinary Hospital will also provide treatment for pets belonging to area municipal shelters, pets adopted from the Richmond SPCA, pets of Richmond SPCA employees and pets referred to the hospital by other veterinarians.

We’ll be closed on Monday, Sept. 7 for Labor Day. We look forward to seeing you when we return on Tuesday, Sept. 8! 🐾

Temporary Operating hours!

Effective April 6, 2026, the Susan M. Markel Veterinary Hospital will temporarily operate Monday through Thursday, 8 AM - 6 PM (including our daily closure from 12 PM - 1 PM).

We anticipate this to be a short-term change and will share updates as we work diligently toward returning to our regular Monday–Friday schedule.

Last Friday, we worked alongside our Smoky's Spay & Neuter Clinic colleagues and our friends from local Banfield Pet Hospitals for a high-volume Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return day.

Thanks to the incredible efforts of community cat trappers, volunteers, partners and our dedicated staff, 82 cats were sterilized and vaccinated! 💙🎉
