Some cats grow older and become distinguished. Some become wise. Some become dignified.

Brahm decided to become everyone’s best friend instead.

This wonderful older gentleman has never met a person, cat, or opportunity for affection that he didn’t like. If you’re handing out pets, Brahm would like to sign up immediately—and for as many sessions as possible. Chin scratches? Yes. Belly rubs? Maybe. Sitting next to him and telling him he’s handsome? Absolutely.

Despite being an older guy, Brahm hasn’t gotten the memo that he’s supposed to slow down. He still has plenty of playful, goofy moments that will keep you smiling. One minute he’s soaking up affection like it’s his full-time job, and the next he’s reminding everyone that fun has no age limit.

Owl is one of the quiet ones.

This beautiful adult girl is incredibly gentle and a little shy. The shelter can feel like a big, overwhelming place for a sensitive soul, so Owl tends to hang back and watch the world from a safe distance. But if you take the time to sit with her, you’ll see something special: a sweet, tender-hearted cat who wants to trust and wants to love.

Bjorn is an adult gentleman with a heart of pure gold and enough love to go around for absolutely everyone. New people? Wonderful. Old friends? Wonderful. You sitting down for five seconds? Also wonderful, because that means it’s time for cuddles.

This sweet boy is the total package: affectionate, gentle, friendly, and endlessly charming. He believes laps were invented for him, pets should never end, and every human deserves a warm greeting and a happy purr.

As rescuers, we frequently have terrible days. Days with both micro and macro traumas. Yesterday was one of those days for a dear friend as she lost a beloved kitten. Today is one for me with a cat abandoned at our door and human interactions that are so disappointing that it is hard to swallow. But yet, we continue. We push forward to help every animal we possibly can.

Please understand that we are humans with feelings, emotions, undying empathy (frequently to our own detriment), and endless compassion. We have families that rely on us and lives beyond animal rescue (or at least we try). We see the heartache and still we press on. It is vital that we have boundaries even though it frequently feels impossible. Please see us. Please be kind. Please have respect for creatures so it’s not just us who care.

Today I trudge forward to be there for those who are in need of help, as does my sweet friend who suffered such a tragic loss. Because they need us.
