🚨 PYOMETRA IN DOGS & CATS 🐶🐱 | A LIFE-THREATENING VETERINARY EMERGENCY!

Pyometra is a serious uterine infection that mainly affects unspayed female dogs and cats. The uterus fills with pus, and without timely treatment, the condition can lead to uterine rupture, sepsis, and even death. ⚠️

🔬 Key Clinical Facts:
🐾 Commonly occurs after heat (estrus).
🩺 Signs may include lethargy, loss of appetite, vomiting, increased thirst and urination, and sometimes vaginal discharge.
🚨 In closed-cervix pyometra, discharge may be absent, making early recognition difficult.
🏥 Prompt veterinary assessment is essential. Treatment often involves emergency ovariohysterectomy (surgical removal of the ovaries and uterus) and supportive care.

💡 Remember: Early diagnosis and treatment can save lives. Never ignore signs of illness in an unspayed female pet!

You guessed it!!!! Kora was at the clinic for a dental cleaning. Here you can see her under general anesthesia getting her teeth cleaned. A proper dental cleaning is more than just cleaning the part of the teeth you can see.

For a complete dental cleaning and oral examination, general anesthesia is essential. It allows us to safely examine every surface of every tooth, clean below the gumline, probe for periodontal disease, and perform a thorough oral exam without causing stress or discomfort to the patient.

But anesthesia is only one part of the process. I want you to look at everything that is on Kora to monitor her while she is asleep. Everything you see has a purpose in providing the best care and safety for your pet.

💉 IV catheter placement and IV fluids
🫁 Endotracheal intubation to protect the airway from water, bacteria, and debris
❤️ Continuous monitoring of heart rate
🩸 Blood pressure monitoring
🫁 Oxygen and respiratory monitoring
🌡️ Temperature monitoring

And perhaps one of the most important parts of a comprehensive dental: dental radiographs. 🦷📸

A large portion of a dog’s or cat’s tooth is hidden beneath the gumline. Dental X-rays allow us to see the roots, surrounding bone, and problems that simply cannot be identified by just looking at the outside surface of the teeth.

A tooth can look perfectly normal above the gumline while having significant disease below it.

Our goal isn’t simply to make your pet’s teeth look cleaner when they leave. It’s to identify and treat dental disease that could otherwise remain hidden and to make the entire procedure as safe and comfortable as possible.

Because good dental care means caring for the whole tooth—and the whole patient.

Where’s Kora today?? Having dad be your doctor has its perks. One of those perks is you automatically get volunteered to donate blood which can then be used to create serum eye drops. Ok, to be honest we aren’t sure if Kora considers that a perk but she hasn’t said otherwise and the reward was lots of treats and she got to spend the afternoon at the clinic. Win win.
So how and why do we use blood serum as eye drops?? The how is fairly simple, we collect blood, separate the serum, and prepare it as eye drops. The why is more important. Serum contains natural growth factors and other healing components that when applied directly to the eye can assist in treating slow-healing or otherwise complicated corneal ulcers which can be very painful and compromise your pets eye.
If you notice squinting, excessive tears, discharge, redness/cloudiness, or any other abnormality please have it checked. Corneal ulcers can progress quickly.
