We’ve been getting quite a few questions lately about our vaccine requirements for puppies for boarding and daycare, so I wanted to give a little more explanation behind our policy. 🐶💜

Puppies are still developing their immune systems, which means they can be more vulnerable to serious infectious diseases—especially when they’re around other dogs. The ASPCA recommends that puppies receive a series of at least three core vaccinations, given at 3–4 week intervals, with the final dose at around 16 weeks of age. Distemper and parvovirus are among the core vaccines for dogs.

That’s why at TKM, puppies joining our boarding or daycare environment need:

🐾 3 rounds of Distemper/Parvo
🐾 Rabies when age-appropriate
🐾 Bordetella

We also ask that vaccines have enough time to become effective before a puppy comes into a group environment.

This isn’t about keeping puppies from experiencing the fun stuff! In fact, appropriate socialization is an important part of puppy development. The goal is to find that balance between safe socialization and protecting puppies while their immune systems are still developing.

We know there are a LOT of questions when you have a new puppy, and we’re happy to help explain our requirements and why we have them.

And most importantly…we can’t wait to meet all of your puppies! 🐶🎾🐾💜

🐾 KENNEL COUGH SEASON IS UPON US — LET’S HELP STOP THE SPREAD! 🐾

We are receiving calls and reports of kennel cough in our community, and we will continue to keep our TKM families informed as we learn more.

Symptoms to watch for include:
• Persistent or sudden coughing/hacking
• Gagging or retching
• Sneezing or nasal discharge
• Low energy or decreased appetite
• Coughing that worsens with activity or excitement

If your dog develops a new or persistent cough, especially after being around other dogs, please let us know.

Why reporting helps:
Knowing about reported cases allows us to monitor what we’re seeing, communicate with families who may have been exposed, and take additional precautions when appropriate.

We will continue our thorough cleaning and disinfection protocols. Kennel cough can be difficult to prevent completely because it is a respiratory illness that can spread through the air and respiratory droplets. Dogs are naturally going to bark, interact, and share the same air while boarding.

Because of this, keeping symptomatic dogs home and giving them time to recover away from other dogs is one of the best ways we can collectively help reduce the spread. Just like with people, sometimes staying home when we’re sick is the kindest thing we can do for those around us. ❤️

If your dog develops symptoms, please give them a 2-week break from close contact with other dogs, including boarding, daycare, grooming, and dog parks.

This year’s strain has been particularly aggressive. The Bordetella vaccine can help reduce the risk and severity, but no vaccine is 100% effective.

We’ll continue doing our part with cleaning, disinfection, monitoring, and communication—and we appreciate everyone working together with us to help keep our TKM guests healthy and safe. 🐶❤️

We’re seeing an increase in kennel cough in our community after the holiday weekend. It can spread like a cold bug going around daycare—even before symptoms appear.

We’ve implemented our deep-cleaning and disinfecting procedures, but we need your help too! ❤️

If your dog develops symptoms, please keep them home and quarantine them from other dogs. We ask that they stay out of group settings for two weeks after symptoms have fully resolved.

Most cases are mild and resolve on their own, but contact your vet if symptoms are severe or persist. 🐶❤️

The app will also make it easier to manage your pet’s information, keep vaccination records updated, and stay connected with TKM Kennels—all in one place! 🐶❤️ We will still be here to take reservations over the phone, messages, and email too. 🤗
