Buford and Weston had a blast during Adventure Play today! 🎉 They showed off their skills as they weaved their way through the cones, staying focused, having fun, and earning lots of praise along the way.

Adventure Play gives our daycare guests extra mental and physical enrichment through fun activities, obstacle courses, interactive games, and one-on-one engagement with our team. It’s a great way to build confidence, burn energy, and keep tails wagging! 🐕❤️

*Training Tip of the Month*
One of the biggest mistakes people make when trying to stop an unwanted behavior is focusing only on telling the dog “no” instead of figuring out why the dog keeps doing it in the first place.

Dogs repeat behaviors that earn them something they want. That reward might be obvious (like a treat) or it might be something we don’t even realize we’re giving them.

Take jumping, for example. Many dogs jump on people because it gets attention. Even if the attention is negative (“Off!” “Stop!” or pushing them away), the dog still got what they wanted: interaction.

From the dog’s perspective: “I jump up, human talks to me, touches me, or looks at me. Success!”

The first step to changing the behavior is removing the reward. If jumping no longer earns attention, and keeping four paws on the floor does, your dog will start choosing the behavior that works.

When addressing any unwanted behavior, ask yourself: “What is my dog getting out of this?”

Once you identify the reward, you can prevent the unwanted behavior from being reinforced and start rewarding the behavior you’d rather see instead.
